Job description

A truly unique opportunity to work at the forefront of the biodiversity recovery and enhancement in the UK & internationally. A 34-hour week & 100% remote working if desired.

Our client advises a range of private, public and third sector clients who want to act for nature, working at the cutting-edge of scientific research to employ creative and disruptive techniques to challenge the status-quo of how biodiversity is managed in practice. They offer a wide range of services and undertaken projects which vary from fisheries governance research to biodiversity impacts of the fashion sector.

They are a small company of experts who work remotely (from their London & Nottingham offices) with a strong emphasis on quality and innovation but who place a high value on work-life balance, job satisfaction and career development.

They are looking for a consultant (up to 3 years’ experience) with strong technical biodiversity expertise.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • You will be expected to work with corporate data provided by clients and use both tools and analysis to calculate quantitative elements of corporate biodiversity impact, dependency and risk.
  • Supporting the design of methodologies and their delivery for impact and dependency analysis for leading companies across a range of sectors including tech, agri-business and apparel.
  • Use quantitative data-led approaches to conduct materiality assessments, risk assessments and other relevant methodologies.
  • Help to create innovative approaches to assessing biodiversity impact through supply chains.
  • Help to integrate robust evidence into ongoing decision support systems and strategies.
  • Ensure methodologies are consistent and compliant with a range of relevant frameworks and legislation e.g. CSRD, SBTN, TNFD, GRI etc.
  • Engage in external forums and keep up to date with scientific literature to ensure we are at and contributing to the cutting edge of biodiversity and natural capital assessment within supply chains.

Ideally You Will Have the Following

They are particularly interested in individuals who are keen to innovate, drive the space forward and work with our wider team to ensure positive decision making.

  • You should be numerically confident and with experience of quantitative assessment for biodiversity.
  • A Masters degree in a relevant environmental/social subject
  • Professional work experience in corporate sustainability, supply chain analysis or consulting
  • Fluent use of coding language(s) such as R or python
  • Knowledge (including strengths and weaknesses) and experience of a range of tools or analysis related to biodiversity e.g. IBAT, ReCiPe, Corporate Biodiversity Footprint, Global Biodiversity Score, STAR etc.
  • Ability to innovate to provide novel solutions
  • Confident communicator with a range of stakeholders with varying levels of knowledge
  • Knowledge of relevant biodiversity legislation or corporate disclosure frameworks e.g. CSRD, TNFD, SBTN, GRI etc.
  • Ability to effectively visualise data for communication

Desirable characteristics

  • A PhD in a relevant subject
  • Confident user of ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Knowledge of Life Cycle Assessments, particularly with a focus on biodiversity or natural capital
  • Passionate about biodiversity recovery

Rewards & Benefits

This is an exceptional opportunity where the ethos of the business is centred around three main areas;

  • Working at the cutting edge of applied conservation science
  • Exploring new markets and assist a wide range of entities who are thinking about biodiversity outside of typical ‘conservation’
  • Working in a way which is flexible, interesting, and compatible with family life and our own needs and interests.

In return for your hard work and dedication, my client offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package (including annual bonus in line with company performance, ability to contribute to academic research, a 34-hour work week which allows staff to take Friday afternoons off), plus ample opportunities for career advancement and to really make a difference.
