Service Care Solutions are working with University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to support a The Histology Team in the Derbyshire area. The successful candidate will primarily work and provide support with Microtomy, embedding and specialist staining.
The contract duration is for 3 months with the likelihood of extension. This is a full-time placement with 37.5 hours available. Part-time applications of 3 Days or more will also be considered.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 09:00 - 17:00
Location: Derbyshire
Pay: 25.00 p/h LTD

Job Purpose - Band 6 Biomedical Scientist/Histologist
Key Responsibilities

• Perform histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and cover slipping, ensuring compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.
• Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and adherence to health and safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures, test results, and patient information in accordance with NHS guidelines and data protection regulations.
• Provide expert advice and support to colleagues, patients, and external stakeholders regarding histological procedures, test results, and laboratory services.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, including proficiency testing, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals to provide timely and accurate diagnostic results.
• Assist in the training and supervision of junior staff, trainees, and support staff within the histology laboratory.
• Stay updated with advances in histology and biomedical science through continuing education and professional development activities.
• Adhere to professional standards, codes of conduct, and ethical guidelines set by regulatory bodies such as the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

Requirements

• IBMS Accredited degree
• HCPC Registration
• Completed/Working towards specialist IBMS portfolio
• Histology Experience
