Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 + up to 6% bonus per annum

Are you a skilled and passionate bricklayer/ bricklaying expert with a desire to shape the next generation of construction professionals?

We're seeking a dedicated Brickwork Technician to join our team as an Apprentice Mentor at our NHBC Newcastle Training Hub. In this role, you'll play a pivotal part in guiding and instructing apprentices, sharing your expertise to help them master the art of bricklaying and attain a recognised qualification.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, you are to support and assist the Principal Trainer/Assessor in the effective maintenance, upkeep, and organisation of NHBC Brickwork apprenticeship hub facilities, materials, and resources. To independently teach and monitor brickwork apprentices for periods where the principal is engaged in theory sessions and briefings. Likewise, during periods when the Principal is attending regular meetings.
Following the Principal Trainer/Assessor's direction, you will provide a safe, conducive working environment for tuition compliant with the quality standards expected by our industry customers and educational bodies.

Responsibilities extend to:
  • Preparing and ordering materials and equipment within agreed budgetary requirements to ensure continuity of learning. Such examples are Brickwork materials, learner's equipment, PPE, and consumables.
  • Ensuring training sessions are planned and prepared for daily sessions, creating a daily/weekly structured learning path.
  • Clearing down and returning stock materials to readiness following tuition sessions including used bricks and mortar.
  • Independently teaching in the absence of the Principal. You will deliver a mix of practical training, shared best practice from your experience in housebuilding.
  • Constructing and presenting a structured tuition delivery for learners, working through mandatory requirements.
  • Responsibility for updating progress records of Apprentices using the online portfolio .
  • Adhering to Health and safety regulations and being responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for both learners and staff. This will includes controlling hazardous substances, and deliveries whilst maintaining safe access and segregation, supervising of use of equipment including power tools, monitoring and enforcing of PPE standards and adherence.
  • Reporting and recording breaches of H&S and conduct that may be required for used further action deemed necessary and training.
  • Would be an advantage to be a Qualified First Aider and Fire Marshal with responsibility for ensuring First Aid arrangements are maintained.
  • Any further duties required in support of other training activities taking place at the brickwork hub or as directed by Principal Trainer Assessor.
The ideal candidate will have
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, as to ability work with a range of people of all backgrounds and levels, demonstrating Team Player values and people-centric.
  • Be well organised self-sufficient starter with proven management skills and initiative-driven.
  • It would be an advantage to be familiar with a teaching setting, successfully guiding apprentices/students through various structured training and teaching methods.
  • Be of a progressive and supportive nature with a flexible approach to following instructions working across training programs and official qualification bodies.
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety policy at all times, to provide a safe environment for all learners during training sessions based on-site and in classrooms.
Qualifications:
Education and Qualifications
  • Brickwork Diploma level 2, or equivalent.
  • Desirable to have a Teaching qualification.
  • Full driving licence required.
  • CSCS Card or Equivalent.
  • First Aid at Work (or ability to achieve).
  • This role requires an enhanced DBS check on appointment.
