- Providing expert advice on fire safety measures and solutions to architects, engineers, and building owners.
- Keeping abreast of the latest developments in fire safety technology, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and effectiveness in their work.
- Conducting fire risk assessments for buildings and structures to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
- Advise on fire protection systems, such as fire alarms, sprinkler systems, and smoke control systems, to meet safety standards and regulations.
- Lead the fire strategy /building control assessment of complex, high risk and high value new build and conversion projects.
- Use various software packages to assessQualitative Design Reviews (QDRs) fire strategies and CFD modelling.
- Negotiate with developers, builders and their professional advisors, from initial design stage to project completion, to ensure proposals are satisfactory and comply with all relevant regulations and NHBC Standards.
- Deliver technical presentations to both internal and external customers.
- Assist with training, coaching and mentoring of others.
- Manage own workload and allocated tasks to ensure relevant SLAs are achieved.
- Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE requirements for your own personal safety and that of others.
The Idea candidate will have:
- The ability to analyse complex fire safety challenges, identify potential risks, and develop effective mitigation strategies is crucial.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this role.
- A solid understanding of fire dynamics, fire protection systems, and relevant building codes and standards is also necessary.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written English language are vital for effectively conveying fire safety concepts to diverse stakeholders, including clients, architects, engineers, and regulatory authorities. The ability to write clear, concise reports and deliver persuasive presentations is important.
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment, share expertise, and contribute to collective decision-making processes is highly valued.
- Good working knowledge of various smoke control solutions.
- Familiarity with relevant fire safety regulations, codes, and standards, such as NFPA, IBC, and local building codes, is necessary to ensure compliance and adherence to legal requirements.
- A commitment to ongoing professional development and staying abreast of advancements in fire safety technology, regulations, and best practices is essential for maintaining competence and effectiveness in the role.
- Able to work with low supervision, well organised and a good level of industrial awareness.
- Uphold NHBC's reputation and standards, with a positive and engaging attitude.
- IT literate with the ability to compose precise communication and reporting.
- We are looking for an expert Fire Engineer who already has or is working towards Chartered Membership of the (IFE)Institute of Fire Engineers.
- We would consider other Chartered Memberships to, e.g. CABE, BEng, CEng, MCIBSE.
- Construction related degree/diploma or higher, e.g. Building Engineering, MSc Fire Engineering.
