Job Title:BTEC Computing Assistant Teacher

Location: Hulme, Manchester

Salary: £20,907.69 - £22,323.37

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Faculty for Mathematics, Economics and Computing comprises a total of eight departments (Maths, Further Maths, Core Maths, GCSE Maths, Economics, Computing, BTEC Computing and BTEC ICT).

We are in the incredibly pleasing position having high student numbers, which facilitates having a total of four Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma Computing groups (two groups in Year One and two groups in Year Two). We also have one group of Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate in ICT. This department has a fantastic record of delivering extremely high D*D*D* - DDD rates. It is a supportive and inclusive department with positive staff and student relationships. All classrooms in the BTEC ICT and Computing departments are fully kitted out with high-speed computers and one central interactive TV with large whiteboards.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in the teaching of the BTEC Computing qualifications by supporting and assisting the teacher to ensure all students are engaged, learning and making excellent progress
  • To lead on work with individual or small groups of students to plan and support their completion of work and revision for exams
  • To be aware of individual students' needs and help to ensure that differentiated learning materials and tailored support is provided to students, including to meet any SEND/EHCP needs
  • To support class teachers to track and monitor individual students' progress and subsequently plan effective interventions where appropriate
  • To contribute to the development of resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the curriculum area as reasonably directed by the Head of Department
  • To contribute to the planning activities of the department, and to ensure that the planning of the department reflects the needs of the students and the aims and objectives of the College
  • To contribute to departmental trips, including planning activities and attending events as appropriate
  • In conjunction with the Head of Department, to foster the application of IT in the curriculum, including the development of materials for independent learning and contribute to the development and delivery of Skills for Life in the subject area

  • Willingness to support department trips and visits
  • A positive attitude to IT and a willingness to learn to use digital resources effectively
  • Smart in appearance and manner
  • Enhance DBS clearance
  • Two satisfactory references
  • Full and relevant career and education history
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 (to be legally employed to work in the UK)

  • Evidence of ability to support good teaching of the subject area.
  • Evidence of high levels of student satisfaction as appropriate
  • A relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent in an appropriate subject
