Introduction

The Property and Asset Strategy (PAS) team lead the strategic development of an integrated property and asset management approach for the estate, managing the lifecycle of the buildings, day-to-day corporate property management and providing advice to the Project Delivery and Maintenance groups.

The Role

In the role as Building Surveyor Apprentice, you will be involved in a number of different areas. You will work closely with the Building Surveyor on the management of Quadrennial Inspections (QIs) across the estate. The QIs informs us of the condition of the estate and are the couduits to a number of workstreams and projects. To contextulaise the importance of the QIs, it retains the structural historical significance of the historic estate and was the mechanism for the recent Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) multimillion pound project.

As part of this role, you'll undertake a Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship at Level 6. This is the academic equivalent of a degree. We will enrol you onto the apprenticeship shortly after you join, and it will typically take 60 months to complete for the degree element plus 18 months for the end point assessment. Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

  • Support the team in the delivery of surveys/ inspections and data analysis to identify and programme necessary capital and BAU (business as usual) works, including financial and budgetary forecasting and management.
  • Support the team in the management and administration of professional consultancy contracts.
  • Work closely with professional consultants during specialist surveys and inspections.

Skills and Eligibility

It is an essential requirement for the successful candidates to obtain either one of the following qualifications:

  • A Level BBB or;
  • BTEC National Diploma DDM or;
  • Access to HE qualifications with 24 Distinctions 21 Merits or;
  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 128 UCAS points

In addition, you must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).

If you hold an equivalent level 6 qualification in the same subject or hold a degree or higher qualification or equivalent, you will be ineligible to apply.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Ability to undertake varied tasks independently and in a team and be able to identify problems and come up with solutions. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, including promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Have a willingness to learn new things related to this apprenticeship; this includes developing IT skills on Microsoft and other programmes.
  • Be a confident communicator with good team-working and collaborative skills and a willingness to develop presentation skills. Possess confident written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have a keen interest in building design, surveying, asset management and construction and commitment to maintain your RICS membership.
