Building Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship - Southampton
Our building and project consultancy services provide bespoke specialist solutions that can be applied across all technical aspects of acquisitions, development, ownership, occupation and disposal of property assets. Our aim is always the same- to provide the best in class, reliable, proactive and value-enhancing advice.
More than 200 of our consultants advise on buildings and projects throughout the UK, with regional offices in England and Scotland, and further resource for coverage throughout Europe (across 70 offices). This role will be in the southern team which currently comprises 10 fee earners, 2 graduates and a sandwich placement student.
Our clients range across investors, developers and occupiers of real estate in all sectors. Our team brings broad property experience and sector-specific knowledge, backed by the wider research, expertise and the Savills network to bear on every instruction.
Our work entails guidance on a range of building surveying and project services, including:
- Technical due diligence
- Project management
- Development services
- Workplace & design
- Party walls
- Dilapidations
- Architectural design
- Building refurbishment
- Reinstatement cost assessments
- Planned preventative maintenance programmes.
About this role
An opportunity exists for an apprentice to work alongside all members of the team supporting their wide ranging work.
The individual would need to develop an in-depth understanding of the built environment and professional building surveying, in order to assist the team with all aspects of their work and helping them to maintain their market leading position.
Day to day work includes:
- Assisting with building survey and dilapidations inspections
- Assisting in preparing reports
- Collating and reviewing information
- Helping with the assessment of buildings and advising on all numerous aspects (form of construction, defect analysis, construction projects)
- Coordinating other professional advisors
- Assisting in project monitoring instructions
- Assisting with the preparation of schedules of condition and planned maintenance programs
- Assisting on pitches and presentations and identifying new business opportunities
- Project progress site inspections
- Client meetings
- Preparing of reports, dilapidations assessments and the design and specification of tender documentation
A driving licence or learning to drive is essential.

Good communication and organisational skills are vital to succeed as an Apprentice. You will need the ability to manage a varied workload, work as part of a team while also having the ability to use your own initiative, and be passionate about delivering the best service possible for your team and clients.

GCSE English and Maths at Level 4 (Grade C) or above is a mandatory requirement and you may not apply if you are currently studying for or already have a degree. You will also need a minimum of 96 UCAS points.
You must be eligible to live, work and remain in the UK, within 1 hour’s commute of the office you are applying to.
Training
5 year training programme (Level 6 Apprenticeship), which includes a part time undergraduate degree (4 years) and an APC training programme (2 years, enrolled in year 4 of the undergraduate degree) leading to become a Chartered Surveyor with an RICS qualification.
On the job training is provided to ensure all the required knowledge and experience is obtained throughout the apprenticeship to qualify successfully.
