Job description

We are looking for a Business Case Lead to join our team.
The Business Case Lead will lead the planning, development, drafting and oversight of complex Business Cases required for the delivery of the NWS Programmes work, including identifying and managing the forward programmes of Business cases, often many years in advance of programme need.
Lead and manage a small team of Business Case assistant managers.
The Business Case Lead role holder will be prepared to challenge expert input and is responsible for ensuring that all assigned Business Cases comply with Nuclear Decommissioning Authority/Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and HM Treasury requirements.
The role holder will work directly to the NWS Head of Business Case & Sanction, while working closely with the Senior Programme Managers for the relevant programmes on a day-to-day basis. In this matrix role, the role holder will provide guidance and advice to other members of the programme lead teams. The role holder will support and provide guidance to project teams on the requirements and development of Business Cases, using organisational templates and the HM Treasury 5 case model, and will set expectations for the underpinning documents and evidence to be developed by the programme, upon which the Business Cases will be prepared.
The role holder is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate documentation, review and assurance has been undertaken, for example in respect of the costings, schedule, benefits, capability and management planning are in place to support development of the Business Cases together with meeting audit and organisational requirements.
The role holder will provide daily support to the Head of Business Case & Sanction and deputising as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • · Greater than five years' experience in leading the preparation of programme and project Business Cases within a government or similar environment.
  • · Experience of operating at Business Case management levels as part of a significant programme (WLC cost > £0.5bn) and in agile environments.
  • · Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required as the post holder will be expected to produce concise and persuasive verbal and written briefing as well as engaging with individuals at all levels internally and externally with credibility.
  • · Proven ability to translate senior direction and strategy into clear, actionable plans whilst providing analytical and problem-solving capability.
  • · Leadership, team working. influencing and motivational skills required, together with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • · Experience of line managing a team.
  • · A pragmatic, problem-solving approach, in particular the ability to identify the key issues and distinguish the essential from the 'nice to have'.
  • · Experience of delivering proposals and cases to Programme and Project Board levels.
