The British Library is one of the world’s most significant research libraries and the Business & IP Centre has an established record of supporting entrepreneurs from the first spark of inspiration to growing and scaling their business. Customers of the centre have access to a wide range of high value Business & intellectual property research resources.
As a Business & IP Centre Senior Service Manager, you will manage and deliver high-quality research services to customers of the British Library through the provision of commercial research, training and one to one assistance via onsite and remote services.
The focus of this activity will be the support of innovation and enterprise.
You will have an in depth knowledge of business and/or intellectual property information sources and using effective research techniques to write research reports.
This will be primarily to serve customers on a fee-paying basis, using our online subscription databases, items from the British Library collections and other relevant information sources.
You’ll also have experience of the effective delivery of projects or the management of customer-facing services. This may include experience of management or motivation of staff or, businesses on support programmes, either in direct line management or project/matrix management scenarios.
You’ll also be able to utilise your specialist subject and generic research skills to deliver training to customers through the delivery of workshop/webinars to attendees and on a 1:1 basis in person and online.
To support the wider delivery of the service and team, you’ll provide a reference service to BIPC customers through staffing the reference enquiry desk and through answering free remote enquiries.
You will also have the ability to build effective working relationships and have excellent communication, presentation and customer service skills. The role is dependent on team working, supporting colleagues as well as working on your own initiative.
