What you'll do
You'll be responsible for executing the commercial and sourcing strategy for your assigned category or subcategories. Collaborating with Procurement Managers, you will contribute to the development of complex commercial strategies and provide analytical and research support. Your role will involve conducting sourcing activities such as supplier appraisal and selection, negotiation, and contract management. You will develop and execute category plans, gaining understanding of internal and external supply markets, and influencing stakeholders to support your ideas. Additionally, you will be accountable for the management of key suppliers, ensuring effective partner relationships and successful contract transitions. Flexibility will be required as you deliver commercial projects and adhere to procurement and supplier management policies. Your success will depend on your ability to prioritise actions, engage in stakeholder management, lead negotiations, drive results, and maintain integrity in all aspects of your work.
Who you are
You are an experienced procurement professional with a strong understanding of procurement principles and techniques. With a deep knowledge of your specific category or subcategories, you have a good awareness of external supply markets, emerging trends, and potential risks. Your expertise in negotiating with third parties and managing supplier relationships allows you to effectively execute the commercial and sourcing strategies for your category, ensuring value for money and delivering outstanding solutions for Sainsbury's. With strong communication skills, commercial acumen, and the ability to build successful relationships with stakeholders, you confidently navigate complex conversations and influence decision-making. As a results-oriented individual, you are committed to delivering objectives and operating with integrity, while continuously seeking opportunities for improvement and growth within the procurement field.
Essentials
An experienced Procurement professional, or comparable relevant commercial experience, with an understanding of Procurement principles and techniques
An awareness of external supply markets, including emerging trends, opportunities, and risks within your field
Experience of negotiating with 3rd parties, with a basic legal knowledge and some experience of contract negotiation
Experience of stakeholder management
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas in a simple way
Desirable
Experience of 3rd party relationship management
Experience of project management
Abiltiy to influence and confidently engage up to and including Senior Manager level
Commercial acumen and desire to build a career in Procurement.
Autonomous and able to use initiative to problem solve without need for direction.

Ability to apply an analytical and methodical approach to problem solving.
Being comfortable working with abstract ideas and detailed data.
