Job description

Campaign Manager for Nature restoration project

The Roundhouse Living Experiment is a Nature restoration project founded by filmmaker, woodland conservationist and wilderness-skills instructor Julius Silvan. It aims to restore the Irish Atlantic Rainforest, working with Hometree, a leading Irish charity, and other local partners.

The project

Julius will be undertaking a living experiment in the Medieval roundhouse that he and his cousin, Dylan, built entirely with hand tools and natural materials, as seen on their YouTube channel, Smooth Gefixt. During the living experience, Julius will be living in the roundhouse, in a historical way without modern technology, for approximately two months.

The goal of the project is to fundraise for the charity Hometree, to make a direct impact towards restoring temperate rainforests in Ireland, and to raise awareness about the human connection to nature, climate change, forestry and Nature restoration.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

The 1st phase of the role, starting immediately, is to work together with Julius and the team on the final stage of preparations and the launch of the project (over the previous year a plan, website, promotion materials and contacts have already been made).

In the 2nd phase, during the actual living experience (approximately April - July), the role is responsible for coordinating and managing the project behind the scenes, which entails:

●Planning and managing other staff (videographers, video editor(s), etc.).
● Updating website and fundraising platforms.
● Establishing outreach.
● Be the main link in communications; In-person communication with Julius at the roundhouse and with the various parties and individuals involved, such as Hometree, special guests and the media.
● Posting on social media and our website (in collaboration with video editor, etc.).
● Assisting on-site and guiding special guests etc.

There will also be opportunities to be outside and experience things like outdoor skills and Nature restoration, and to meet interesting people in the fields of sustainable living, Nature restoration, ecology, history, wilderness living (bushcraft), filmmaking, etc.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

● Excellent communication skills.
● Great IT skills (in a collaborative online workspace).
● Effective leadership: good at leading, as well as being led.
● Great writing skills and fluency in English.
● Social media experience.
● Strong organisational skills.
● Enthusiastic about Nature restoration and close-to-nature living.

Prefered Skills & Experience:

● Work experience in the nature NGO sector.
● A degree in relevant subjects.
● Proven fundraising experience.
● Experience in managing Wordpress-based websites.
● Knowledgeable on topics such as Nature restoration, forestry, climate change and ecology.
● Familiar with Irish culture and history.
● Familiar with YouTube / social media content creation.
● Basic knowledge of Irish nature and forestry policies.

Other useful skills (bonus): Photography, videography & editing, other multimedia creation, ecology, forestry, bushcraft and survival skills, etc.

Job Type

The role is initially temporary until the post-living experience phase is completed (approx. August) and a short-term contract of up to 6 months is possible. Part-time to full-time role and flexible or fixed working hours depending on the phase of the project and wishes of the candidate.
There is also the potential for this role to evolve into a longer-term position in relation to the outcomes of the project (e.g. continuation of woodland and nature promotion, along with involvement in the actual allocation of funds to Hometree, local partners and communities).

Location & Accomodation

The project site (roundhouse) is located in the countryside, 15 minutes from Loughrea, Co. Galway, Ireland. Accommodation near the roundhouse site is included and preferred (at least during the actual living experience, Phase 2). Alternatively, living locally is desired.

Salary & Expenses

Decent salary offered dependent on the candidate’s experience/skills/qualifications and is negotiable. Free accommodation for the duration of the role can also be included.
