Job description

Role Guide: Care Support Workers provide social and physical care to those in need of care and their carers, helping them achieve their goals and desired outcomes. Care Support Workers support the person to maximise their independence and wellbeing in a person-centred manner, working in ways which are consistent with the key aims of maintaining dignity and human rights. Care at the Carers’ Resource provides support to carers and people with care needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Relating to your role: Provides the client with emotional support, companionship and a safe environment. Assists the client with personal hygiene - helping the client to have a bath or shower, to go to the toilet or to care for their skin or hair. Assists client with dressing / undressing, choice of clothes and personal appearance. Supports the client with their medication. Assists the client with mobility including use of wheelchairs, hoists etc. Assists the client with a therapeutic programme designed by a medical professional. Undertakes basic first aid and call the emergency services if required. Reports any concerns about abuse or the welfare or safety of any adult or child there is contact with at work to a line manager / nominated person / person on call. Undertakes specialised tasks as agreed and after appropriate training, for example, administration of medication by specialised techniques, toe nail care and assistance with oxygen therapy. Supports the client with activities outside their home, for example community activities, shopping or attending medical appointments. Provides support with organised group activities for clients. Provides support with preparing meals and drinks and provide assistance with eating / drinking Helps maintain and clean the home for example: washing up, vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom and doing laundry. Looks after pets. Implements, operates and maintains safe systems of work in accordance with care policies, procedures and guidance, training and associated risk assessments. Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children. Works at all times within the philosophy and policies of The Carers’ Resource. Maintains confidentiality over personal information relating to individuals.

Undertakes any other duties that may be considered commensurate with the level of the post and that are set out in the care plan. An understanding of clients needs and awareness of issues affecting them. Desirable

Commitment to undertake Health and Social Care Diploma level 2 within two years of appointment. Able to develop good working relationships with carers and people with care needs while maintaining appropriate personal boundaries. Able to work independently and take initiative while working within Care polices, procedures, guidance. Able to demonstrate care and respect for vulnerable adults and children. Able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills. Able to manage complex workload. Organisational abilities, an ordered systematic approach to work and an eye for detail. Ability and commitment to working as part of an extended team. Need to be self motivated, to organise time effectively, to manage workload, to prioritise tasks and to work to agreed targets. Desirable
Health and Social Care NVQs level 2 or 3 / Health and Social Care Diploma level 2 or 3. Knowledge: Essential
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality sensitivity and a non judgemental attitude. Understanding of adult safeguarding issues Knowledge and understanding of Equality and Diversity, Dignity and Rights and Human Rights will apply to this role. Desirable
Evidence of a good general education. IT literate – a competent user of Word and email. Experience or knowledge of the role played by statutory, private and voluntary sectors and the way they operate and of community care issues. Other Requirements: Essential
An understanding of the need for confidentiality, sensitivity and a non judgemental attitude. To be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults and children. To understand the importance of reflective practice. Able to work in the area covered in a time and cost effective manner. Drivers will only be permitted to carry service users if they have held a driving licence for at least one year and have no more than six points on their licence. Requirements to work evening and weekends on a rota basis as part of a 7 day service. Applicants must be willing to undergo screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Criminal Records Bureau. Own transport and clean, current driving licence. Double vaccinated for Covid 19 (or evidence of medical exemption).
