Careers Wales is an all age guidance service supporting young people in education and customers in the labour market. We are the only national organisation in Wales who offer impartial careers information, advice and guidance services. Our advisers are passionate about helping people achieve their potential.

We are recruiting qualified and Trainee Careers Advisers who can work with a wide range of people. Careers Adviser salary £29,814 - £34,498, starting salary £29,814 and Trainee Careers Adviser salary £28,641. We have vacancies in the following areas:-

Working in Education

Our Careers Advisers working in education are instrumental in ensuring that young people are prepared for key transition points in their lives and that they are aware of the skills required to succeed in an ever-changing labour market. They work with young people in mainstream schools, special schools, those educated other than at school and FE colleges.

Careers Advisers use a range of tools and skills to support the work they do with young people. This ranges from one-to-one support, delivering interactive group sessions and presenting information using a range of digital technology.

If you would like the challenge of working with young people of all abilities and backgrounds, can motivate and inspire young people to achieve their goals, can establish effective relationships with teachers, parents and other learning providers, then we would like to hear from you.

We have vacancies for education Careers Advisers and / or Trainee Careers Advisers in:- Newport, Caerphilly and Monmouthshire (Full and Part time / 4 days a week) and in Flintshire / Denbighshire (Part time / 3 days a week). The ability to speak and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable for two of the three posts in Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Newport and is essential for the third post in these areas as well as for the post in Flintshire/Denbighshire. Where Welsh Language skills are essential candidates should be able to speak to young people and write informal action plans in Welsh.

Working with young people and adults in the Labour Market:

As part of our Working Wales programme delivery, our Careers Advisers work with young people and adults to offer assessment and guidance support to help them enter or re-enter the labour market. They work with a range of customer groups, including those who are both long and short term unemployed, economically inactive, people with health and disability barriers and those seeking to change their careers. They also work in partnership with both local and national organisations including training providers, jobcentre plus, prisons, youth offending teams, employers, and other professional organisations to support their customers into education, training and sustained employment.

Advisers use a range of tools and skills to support the work they do and this ranges from one-to-one support, delivering interactive employability focused group sessions to presenting information using a range of digital technologies.

We would particularly welcome applications from those who have a background in working with:

  • education or training organisations
  • health, social care or disability support sectors
  • adults returning to the labour market and
  • adults or young people from diverse ethnic minority groups, asylum-seekers or refugees.

We have two full time vacancies for Careers Advisers and / or Trainee Careers Advisers working with young people and adults in the labour market in Newport and Swansea. The ability to speak and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable for these vacancies.

You are required to travel within Wales and occasionally UK in order to fulfil your duties and/or to attend learning and development events. You are responsible for ensuring that you have adequate transport arrangements to enable you to fulfil your duties and/or to attend learning and development events.

Qualified Careers Advisers must be qualified to QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (or equivalent) and be eligible for the Career Development Institute Register of Practitioners.

If you do not already have the QCF qualification, we will provide you with the training and support you need to achieve this valuable qualification.

Trainee Careers Advisers should be educated to degree level or equivalent standard and will complete the Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development. This is a degree-level vocational qualification, which will be completed in the workplace, but will require some independent learning in the learner’s own time.

Successful applicants will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
