This role is 100% home/field based as required. The successful candidate must live within an hour’s commute of Glasgow. Applicants who are prepared to relocate to this area will be considered.
The Role:
Reporting to the Design Manager and working directly with the Commercial Manager, as Carpet Designer your day to day duties will include:
- Develop and execute, to a high standard, creative and commercially sensitive, innovative designs and production plans.
- Dealing with Architects, Project Managers, Commercial Managers, Contracts Managers, Interior Designers.
- Meet clients to take design briefs and discuss ongoing and live projects.
- Manage client’s expectations, understand and react to their design related needs by delivering creative and unique designs within the required deadline.
- Prepare and deliver presentations including use of PowerPoint.
- Work closely within a tight knit team comprising of design, sales and project management colleagues.
- Supporting Commercial Manager with leads and appointments from a technical/design perspective.
- Adopt a proactive and flexible approach to meeting department objectives.
- Encourage commitment to continuous improvement and team working at all times.
- Help coach, inspire and develop emerging design talent as and when hired by the business
- Assimilate and develop multiple design briefs.
- Meet the unique needs of a discerning and demanding Architecture and Design community.
- Attend networking events and actively build relationships with new and existing clients within the Design community.
- Participate in design collections and collaborations when required
- Offer advice and share knowledge/experience with colleagues
- Stay up to date with industry trends
- Meet tight deadlines while working quickly and accurately
- Influence and mentor others and embed good practices within the studio
Please be aware a valid passport for occasional travel to manufacturing plants abroad is required.
The successful Carpet Designer will demonstrate:
- Minimum 2 years in a creative carpet design or rug design role, with varied design experience and knowledge in a commercial or contracts environment
- A relevant qualification in textiles or related technical discipline
- High level of technical proficiency and expert eye for detail
- Knowledgeable in Adobe and Microsoft Office Suite
- A creative thinker who can translate complex conceptual ideas
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to work independently but also as a team player
- Strong oral and written communications, confident at presenting to other team members and clients
- Can work well under pressure with tight deadlines, whilst juggling multiple projects at the same time
