Role responsibilities

As Carriage Cleaner, you will play a key role in keeping our trains clean and presentable for our customers. You will clean the interior and exterior of our trains (with particular focus on underframe cleaning), which means the role is a physically demanding one and one which can involve working outside in all weathers.

The role covers a variety of shifts including permanent nights/ mixture of days and nights or permanent days including weekends, so a flexible attitude is important.

As well as cleaning our trains, you will be expected to undertake Depot Cleaning duties, as and when required. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Ensure cleaning standards are maintained at all times throughout the depot, and support with duties as and when directed by management, including staff facilities and Shed Cleaning duties.
• Ensure that all PPE supplied is used correctly and maintained accordingly in line with relevant safety procedures and ensure both you and your colleagues are fully PPE equipped at all times.
• Always ensure own personal safety and that of others and comply with the previsions of the personalised rule book and local instructions.
• You will ensure you use the correct sign off process for your work either digitally or via paper document.
• Keep up to date with changing safety briefs & policies and ensure you work to the Transport for Wales Rail cleaning standards.

Who we’re looking for

• Experience working within rail industry or safety critical environment
• You will be an experienced cleaner with a good understanding of COSSH regulations
• A great team player, with strong communication skills and flexibility in approach to work
• Ability to read and understand risk assessments, safety briefings and similar documents
• Comfortable undertaking physically demanding job

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
