Job description

Central is currently recruiting for a Caseworker, to work across the North East London area. The aim of the service is to provide accommodation and a pathway to independence for former rough sleepers. Support is aimed at maintaining and promoting independence and achieving social and financial inclusion. 

The successful candidate will be required to work 37.5 hours per week, working across Monday - Friday, 9AM - 5PM. Temporary cover is required for approximately 2 months. The pay rate for this role is £13.80 per hour, with £1.67 holiday pay, totalling £15.47 per hour

Please note; this role is hybrid and involves working in clients' homes and community across North East London, some working from home and occasional visits to the office in King's Cross.  

In this position, you will be required to:

  • Hold a caseload of up to 35 key clients and undertake regular key working sessions on a monthly basis resulting in agreed SMART Support Plans that promote progression through the pathway   
  • Complete comprehensive needs and risk assessments 
  • Assist clients in making successful claims for welfare benefits, including Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support where necessary, and ensure that they are maximising their income
  • Accompany clients to visits and other services where appropriate
  • Deal with the immediate support needs of clients as appropriate, providing crisis intervention where necessary
  • Arrange and carry out formal case reviews. Reviews are client led and should predominately take place in the community
  • Keep accurate daily records of client welfare budgets, petty cash, and other project monies
  • Participate in taking Housing Benefit forms directly to the housing benefit office or upload online as needed
  • Support clients that are ready to move into work, education, or training by assisting them to access suitable courses or placements
  • Help service users access health care and improve their mental and physical health

Please note: this role involves loneworking 

To apply for this role, you must have;  

  • Experience working with the following needs; mental and physical ill health, challenging behaviour, substance misuse,  antisocial behaviour and/or offending
  • A working knowledge of being able to support clients into supported accommodation and/or other floating support services, with a demonstrable understanding of Housing and other related legislation
  • The ability to effectively liaise with a range of service providers and agencies in order to establish or improve services for clients
  • The ability to motivate people to move towards an appropriate level of independence and inclusion
  • Experience of supporting clients to carry out tasks such as budgeting, calculating benefit entitlements and understanding rent arrears. 
  • Experience of working with vulnerable people presenting significant levels of need and risk, with an ability to devise and deliver on action plans through high quality risk management and needs assessment, coupled with a current understanding of safeguarding procedures

Further requirements:

In order to register with Central Recruitment Services for temporary agency work, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Current valid right to work in the UK
  • Minimum 12 months’ of paid experience in a front line social care role within the last 3 years* (unless recruitment criteria states otherwise)
  • A fully enhanced DBS either registered on the DBS update service or issued within the last 12 months, or willingness to apply for one through Central (at a cost of £50)
  • Employment or education history to cover the last 5 years which can be verified through the referencing process
