Job description

Successful, growing over the counter (OTC) pharmaceutical and health and beauty business is looking for a Category Manager to join their team. This is a newly created role due to growth and our client have plans to double their business in the next 5 years. This is a real opportunity make your mark within the business!

Salary £40,000 - £50,000 plus car allowance, bonus, pension & healthcare

About the role:

  • To support the Own Brand team through the development and implementation of category strategies to help achieve overall growth targets.
  • The role covers market scanning, analysis, insights and actions across all own brand categories, supporting retailers as required, enabling the company to be seen as the preferred supplier.
  • Providing the own brand team with category, consumer and market trend insights and intel, including the provision of data to support the own brand commercial managers with the identification of their product development pipeline.
  • Acting as the interface of several functions, i.e. sales, consumer marketing and brand marketing, the category manager is pivotal in driving category understanding.
  • Lead the range review process, setting the strategic category direction, managing in depth opportunity analyses, including segmentation, range, space & merchandising recommendations as appropriate.
  • Working closely with the customer development executive and sales specialist to develop brand vision with customer account teams.

Key Skills:

  • Being open and creative to different ways of driving new business and growing existing business for the department and improving collaborative partnerships with key customers and internal stakeholders.
  • You will be encouraged to identify and make recommendations resulting in identifying opportunities for own brand sourcing and the performance of the existing portfolio for the own brand function. This includes the responsibility for the competitor benchmarking.
  • Measure, record and report on monthly/weekly sales figures for own brand across all relevant product categories and sales channels.
  • To support in the implementation of own brand commercial schemes across the business, making recommendations for improvements to support the delivery of own brand sales and margin targets.
  • Provide analysis and support to commercial and customer facing own brand team members.

Experience:

  • Knowledge and experience within the FMCG, Pharmacy, Wholesale or Retail sectors
  • Knowledge and experience of Category Management and Buying
  • Knowledge of the healthcare or Health and Beauty market desirable
  • Advanced Excel required, PowerPoint skills would also be beneficial
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills to recognise performance indicators and present findings with action recommendations
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and work to deadlines
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex data to inform business decisions
  • Embraces change, always looking for ways of improving business performance
  • Works in partnership with other team members, seeking to understand and meet their needs
  • Communicates and influences in a confident manner
