Job description

Leading our Summer School as Centre Director will provide you with a fun, diverse and unforgettable experience from June/July to August 2024.

Who are we?

Here at Stafford House Study Holidays, we welcome over 6000 students (aged 8-17) from overseas during the summer holidays, to help them improve their English. Students reside in one of seven fantastic schools for a duration of 7-14 days at a time. While with us, they are provided with a varied academic and activities programme.

As Centre Director, you’re the glue that binds the whole programme together and makes our students’ stay with us not only educational, but fun, safe, and memorable.

We look for candidates with proven working experience in effective management and leadership, ideally within a summer or year-round school. You’ll oversee the management centre with circa 300+ students and around 30+ staff, depending on centre. Therefore, you must be a great communicator and have experience of working with young people from different cultures. This varied role requires management of budgets, customer, and team satisfaction, as well as being the responsible safeguarding lead on site.

Locations: Bournemouth, Canterbury, Cambridge, Central London, Uxbridge, Northampton, and Oakham (famous for the Michael Owen Red Stars football school).

Contracts: This is a fully immersive experience, working 60 hours per week over 6 days. It's a residential role, meaning that you can choose to spend summer in a new location if you wish. Of course, we provide you with full-board accommodation. The contract is 4-6 weeks, between late June to mid August, depending on the centre you choose. You must attend our managers training weekend, on 14th June 2024.

What’s in it for you as a Centre Director?

  • Working with an experienced and supportive team
  • Opportunity to expand your management experience with a full management training weekend and ongoing support throughout your contract
  • Board + accommodation provided
  • Gain experience of working in a fast-paced, fun and multicultural educational environment

Pay: (Bands are decided by the size and complexity of the centre)

Band 1 Centre Director - £861.56 per week + *holiday entitlement

Band 2 Centre Director - £826.18 per week + *holiday entitlement

Emergency Phone Payments – up to *£40 per week (£20 per night payments for emergency phone cover – anticipated twice per week) *paid at the end of your contract

Some essentials of being a Centre Director?

  • Previous effective management experience (within a school or summer-school setting is highly desirable)
  • Experience of working with young people and a strong working knowledge of safeguarding procedures and policy is essential
  • Be an excellent communicator; you will support students but also your team and group leaders who visit the school with the students
  • Calm under pressure; you will have experience of trouble shooting and a firm grasp of effective customer service

Here’s some of the duties you’ll be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the academic and activities programme. Managing and working alongside the Centre Management Team, you will be responsible for the high performance and delivery of the student’s experience
  • Managing customer expectations; trouble-shooting any issues that may arise in a professional, calm, and satisfactory way
  • Controlling budgets and expenditure
  • Act as one of the Designated Safeguarding Leaders for the centre
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of all students and your team
