Job Tasks
Deliver the youth work the Centre currently provides (youth sessions, community work, school work and events) – the Managers role includes a significant amount of direct Youth Work. We anticipate this representing 40%+ of the role during the next phase of development.
Responsible for overall running of organisation, from managing staff, fundraising, building maintenance and developing the strategy of the centre. Maintain quality of service provision by ensuring that all work is planned, delivered, evaluated and monitored in line with the organisation’s quality standards.
Monitor & ensure all administrative duties are carried out as required by the organisation and in line with the organisation’s quality standards procedures
Take overall responsibility for the building and equipment, including health and safety and appropriate risk management.
Manage administrator, team of youth workers and volunteers to plan, lead and develop regular and tailored youth activities for the LSYCH, ensuring that an attractive range of activities is offered to meet a range of needs.
Lead the organisation of trips and activities outside of the Centre e.g. outreach/partnership work.
Operational responsibility for meeting welfare and safeguarding requirements, ensuring that an environment of safety, care and attention is maintained and supported through the work of the LSYCH.
Liaise with local delivery and funding partners (including with the schools – particularly with City of Sunderland local Authority, West Area Committee
Work with the Trustees to develop and implement a vision and strategy for LSYCH.
Agree annual priority and focus areas for the development of LSYCH with Trustees.
Work with Trustees to develop and secure funding streams for the long-term financial stability of the Centre.
Keep Trustees updated through reports and by attending regular evening Trustee meetings.
Agree and manage the annual budget for the Centre with support from the Trustees and working directly with the Financial Administrator
Key relationships/partners
Internal
Be a visible and approachable pastoral presence within LSYCH and provide, where appropriate, individual support to young people.
Support the LSYCH Trustees to ensure the financial sustainability and development of LSY&CH.
Be a leader and role model within the organisation, setting examples for all staff & volunteers.
External
Build effective and successful partnerships with other local youth agencies and organisations.
Foster ongoing good links between LSYCH, and a range of delivery partners in SUNDERLAND – including the local schools, All Together consortium and Together for Children.
Expected Requirements
Work Related skills/knowledge
A relevant professional qualification in Youth & Community (JNC) or Teaching (QTS) or Social Work (QSW) at DipHE level or above, or demonstrate relevant experience
Ability to produce programmes of work that have flexibility to meet individual needs
Experience of setting up and delivering new projects
Proven experience working with young people in a wide range of different environment
Experience of managing and developing an effective working team of employees
Understanding of issues affecting children and young people with disabilities
Excellent inter-personal skills
Understanding of Equal Opportunities
Good organisational skills
Ability to monitor, evaluate work and produce review reports
Ability to supervise workers and volunteers
Understanding of youth participation & approaches
