GENERAL CONSUMER COUNCIL FOR NORTHERN IRELAND (THE CONSUMER COUNCIL)

INTERESTED IN MAKING THE CONSUMER VOICE HEARD AND MAKING IT COUNT?

The Department for the Economy (DfE) is seeking to appoint a Chair, Deputy Chair and eight board members to join the Board of the Consumer Council. It is expected the appointments will be from 1 May 2024 for a term of four years.

We wish to appeal to people from as wide a range of backgrounds and experiences as possible to help maximise the relevance of the Consumer Council to all of our citizens. People with a disability, those from minority ethnic communities, females and young people are currently under-represented on Boards across the public sector. We would encourage people of all ages, in particular those with a community or voluntary sector background and those from rural communities, to apply to bring some fresh perspectives on consumer issues.

The roles are rewarding, and you will be offered support and any training you will need to make a strong contribution.

Time commitment and remuneration (under review):

Chair - up to 1½ days per week - £24,415 per annum

Deputy Chair- 1 ½ days per month - £154.27 (over 4 hours per day) and £77.13 (under 4 hours per day).

Board Members - 1 day per month - £116.32 (over 4 hours per day) and £58.17 (under 4 hours per day).

Meetings of the Board are normally held in Belfast, although they may occasionally meet in other venues across Northern Ireland.
