SalarySouth Essex Homes is looking to recruit two Independent Board Members, with each to also take the role of a Committee Chair.
South Essex Homes was formed in 2005, as the housing services Arm’s Length Management Organisation for Southend-on-Sea City Council. Our initial aims were to provide a high-quality housing service and deliver a large programme of major improvements to tenants’ homes.
Through the Decent Homes standard, we have been able to significantly improve the homes and lives of our tenants. We continue to work hard to improve our services and to improve satisfaction levels. Our residents are very much at the heart of our business, and we have a dedicated resident engagement team.
Our work and services are overseen and directed by a Board of Management and, following retirements after completion of full terms, we are looking to recruit to two roles that will become available in October 2024. The successful candidates will not only take on the role of Independent Board Members, but each candidate will also be Chair of either the Audit & Risk Committee or Personnel & Remuneration Committee. Our Board is made up of 5 independent Board members, 3 tenant Board members and 3 Councillor Board members.
In making appointments to the Board, we seek Members with the range of skills we require to manage our business effectively. It is essential that the Board’s membership can provide a suitable range of knowledge, experience, and skills, and that the Board Members receive all information, training or other support necessary to enable them to exercise their responsibilities.
Independent Board Members are appointed for a term of 3 years, and this can be followed by up to two further terms of 3 years, subject to satisfactory performance and attendance and to agreement by the Board. The maximum term a member can sit on the Board is 9 years.

Successfully shortlisted candidates will be notified by 6 June 2024 as to whether they will be requested to attend an interview on 14 June 2024. Interviews will be held via MS Teams.
