Are you interested in playing an instrumental role in the facilitation of marriages for the parishioners across the Diocese of Westminster? You could be the next Chancery Assistant.


What you’ll be doing

Working within Archbishop’s House, our Chancery department are responsible for the processing of marriage papers for couples, where at least one of them is a Catholic resident within the Diocese of Westminster.

We are recruiting a Chancery Assistant for our Chancery department who will support the administrative function of the department, particularly focusing on system administration and coordinating the communications for the department.

At the heart of your role, you will be dealing with both the processing of marriage cases, and administrative annulments. You will be checking and requesting documentation, collating documents, and processing correspondence to be sent to couples, as required.

Furthermore, you will have responsibilities surrounding the maintenance of the departmental page on the RCDoW website, updating the page so that relevant information is available to couples looking to marry within the Diocese. Additionally, you will maintain the Chancery department’s resources on the organisational intranet so that all employees can access information relating to the department’s work.

Additionally, you will be responsible for the input and management of data on the departmental database, keeping records of donations, running reports and data cleansing as necessary

What we’re looking for

You’ll love working in a customer-facing role, using your excelling organisational skills to prioritise and meet tight deadlines to facilitate the marriage process for the Catholic residents of the Diocese. You will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, ranging from your colleagues and priests, to the couples looking to marry.

Additionally, you will be able to work independently, but also have excellent teamwork skills, and an innate ability to handle challenging people/situations with respect, compassion and discretion. Our ideal candidate will adopt a friendly and flexible approach to their work, and is keen to work collaboratively and pragmatically with their colleagues.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role for the Chancery team, with a good working knowledge, and experience in, Microsoft Office and website content management, you will help to continue the invaluable work being done within the department, and across the wider Diocese.
