Job Title: Charity Shop Colleague
Hours: Flex: up to 22.5 hours ( Thursday- Saturday)

The role will be working in one of our wonderful shops raising valuable money for Wakefield Hospice. You will be deputising for one of our shop managers running the shops and ensuring our excellent levels of customer service are maintained. You will ensure high standards of display, cleanliness and housekeeping.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL DUTIES
Deputise for shop managers to run the shops effectively and maximise sales by following handovers and instructions from Shop Managers and pro-actively dealing with any issues which arise.
·Provide handovers detailing completed tasks and updates on any ongoing or resolved issues.
Provide shop reports for the Senior Retail Manager when covering for annual leave.
Maintain awareness of trends and developments within high street retail, both charity and commercial.
OPERATIONAL
· Maintaining excellent visual presentation both in the windows and throughout the shop.
· Maximising sales by ensuring consistent pricing, following guidelines set by the hospice and information provided by Shop Managers
· Order stock as required to ensure optimum stock density for the shop to maximise sales.
· Promoting the stock generation strategy as directed by the Senior Retail Manager.
· Providing excellent customer care and dealing with complaints effectively and in a timely manner, escalating where necessary.
· Providing images and content for the hospice’s social media.
· Launching promotions, events, sales, and seasonal changes in line with the strategy and following guidance from the Senior Retail Manager
· Keeping up to date with news and developments from the hospice, business development and fundraising and communicating this to volunteers, customers and donors.
· Maintain the security of shop buildings by ensuring that proper opening and closing procedures are followed.
· Provide a safe environment throughout the shop by maintaining a high standard of housekeeping, reporting defects / maintenance issues with regards to the building or equipment, adhering to policies and procedures, following standard risk assessments and carrying out one off risk assessments for activities as required.
· Take responsibility for cash management (shop takings and donations) within shops and following all correct Wakefield Hospice procedures with regard to epos and cash administration, escalating any issues to the Shop Manager.
· Responsible for the security of cash and stock within the shops, and following guidelines to guard against external and internal theft.
PEOPLE
· Work collaboratively with other retail staff to share successes, best practise and support each other with the aim of increasing overall income for the hospice.
· Promote the recruitment of volunteers and assist Shop Managers with their development.
· Provide day to day communication to volunteers as required to complete tasks.
· Support Shop Assistants (Bank and Weekend) to open / close shops and plan the operation for the day where required.
· Promote hospice initiatives designed to improve wellbeing / communication for staff and volunteers e.g. Staff Forum, Employee Assistance Programme, volunteer events, Appreciation Station.
· Attend and contribute to retail and hospice meetings as required.
· Self-development – to maintain and develop skills and knowledge in retail management..

Pay: From £11.44 per hour
