Job description

ABM are currently recruiting for a Full Time/Permanent Chemical Engineerfor an immediate start working in the Aviation sector located in Belfast, County Antrim.

Purpose:

To Manage the overall operation of the clients Chemical Treatment Plants across multiple sites inline with contract KPI’s providing daily, weekly and Monthly updates to client management. Success will see the creation of a cross functional team of chemical technicians who are competent in all areas of plant operation.

Key Responsibilities

Service Provision:

  • Provide project engineering support and input to the various project teams as directed by the Senior Chemical Engineer.
  • Review current operating procedures, maintenance programmes and commissioning documentation in relation to existing chemical centred processes.
  • Assess material compatibility for pipework, tanks and all ancillary equipment and provide technical documentation to support any relevant decisions.
  • Source chemical handling equipment to optimise process activities to reduce risks to personnel.
  • Assist in the dry, wet and process commissioning of new and modified processes.
  • Provide documentation of all commissioning stages and ensure they are included in the O&M manuals associated with relevant projects.
  • Assist in the optimisation of waste treatment operations and DI systems as and when directed by the Senior Chemical Engineer.
  • Provide Chemical Engineering support in terms of water reduction projects.
  • Provide technical support to other processes that may have a chemical input e.g. solvent recovery system.
  • Assist in chemical related engineering assessments for new technologies.
  • Provide revised designs for existing facilities to enhance the business requirements.
  • Participation in FMEA reviews.
  • Sample analysis and feasibility studies.
  • Any other related services as deemed necessary by the Senior Chemical Engineer.
  • Identify system and operational gaps within the current effluent treatment and air abatement systems that could potentially expose the company to discharge non-compliances and identify corrective plans to close these gaps.
  • Completion of all Chemical Engineering tasks to ensure compliance with PPC SPMP.
  • Monitor the incoming waste streams.
  • Recommend adjustments to treatment plant operating parameters as required.
  • Develop PM checks for all equipment.
  • Monitor and recommend adjustments to chemical dosing regimens.
  • Develop and implement daily inspection program.
  • Investigate and propose cost reduction measures.
  • Facilitate the planning/implementation of treatment plant shut-down/start up.
  • Report and investigate abnormal influent streams to the treatment plants.
  • Collate data for inclusion in plant operations reports.
  • Co-ordinate with the clients project engineers any third party works requiring completion at the treatment plants.
  • Provide Chemical Engineering support to plant engineering group for works relating to the treatment plants.
  • Support plant engineering and operations in trouble-shooting engineering problems in production.
  • Completion of feasibility studies for process optimisation and efficiency gains.
  • Participate in site water optimisation review.
  • Assist in the completion of as built drawings for the treatment plants.
  • Review and maintain up to date copies of P&IDs for all treatment plants.
  • Define tagging requirements for process assets.
  • Procure and install tagging requirements on identified assets to support maintenance PPM schedules.

Quality Management and Health and Safety:

  • Ensure and promote safe working environments.
  • Support chemical risk assessment activities for modified or new processes.
  • Participate in HAZOP assessments for new projects and ensure completion of all assigned activities as a result of the assessments.
  • Generate safe methods of working, standard operating procedures and recommend planned preventative maintenance activities associated with new or modified processes.
  • Where necessary provide input and support for new chemical introductions through risk assessments, HAZMAT and REACH assessments.
  • 100% compliance with site Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in completion of RAMS for relevant projects or maintenance tasks.
  • Develop best practice SOPS, OCAPS and other treatment plant documentation.
  • Aid in the preparation of site audits or visits relevant to the treatment plants.

Other:

  • Take a results-orientated approach to the role, ensure results are analysed/trended and understood; and that remedial actions are delivered.
  • Support the growth of the business, where possible, by up-selling and cross-selling to customers and by passing on potential sales leads.
  • Support any customer initiatives which could lead to longer term benefits to both the customer and ABM.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as reasonably requested by a member of the Management Team.

Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree/Diploma level qualification in Chemical engineering/Engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
  • Relevant Health and safety qualification.
  • IT literate including knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications

  • NEEBOSH General.
  • Forklift Licence.
  • Confined Space training.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in a regulated manufacturing facility.
  • Experience of environmental engineering techniques & abatement solutions.
  • Knowledge of environmental analysis & laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of chemical and waste water treatment processes.
  • Understanding of IT based environmental monitoring and communication technology.
