Purpose of post
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Age UK Sheffield, we are seeking a Retail Shop Manager to lead on the successful running of Age UK Sheffield’s charity shop at The New Flagship Shop in Banner Cross Sheffield,
· maximising the store's sales and profitability
· delivering unequalled levels of customer service through the team
· motivating the team and assisting them in achieving agreed objectives
· promoting high visual merchandising standards; ensuring that store housekeeping standards are continually achieved
Responsibilities and duties
· To liaise closely with the Retail Development Manager, Retail Driver, Area Support and Volunteer Officer
· Take full responsibility for the day to day running of the shop
· Responsibility for maintaining, sorting and processing donations
· Work to financial and processing targets and deadlines
· Work with managers to minimise shop costs and maximise profits
· Maintain the highest standards of customer care
· Encourage donations, gift aid donations and sales through excellent customer service and building the shop’s reputation in the community
· Maintain shop appearance – creating shop displays, ensuring the shop floor is kept clean, safe and presentable and stock density is maintained
· Lead on recruiting and training shop volunteers and junior members of staff
· Delegate tasks to staff and volunteers
· Maximise profit from donations through capturing Gift Aid, selling via social media and maintaining standards in processing, displaying and consistent pricing of stock
· Engage in promoting both the shop and the work of Age UK Sheffield, including over social media and in the shop itself
· Assist with events through the year to raise the profile and income for the shop in the local community
· Operate the till, perform cashing up duties and weekly banking maintaining security in line with Age UK Sheffield policies
· Reporting any issues that impact on the effective running of the shop
· Be listed as an official key holder and follow the out of hours emergencies procedure when necessary
· Manual handling of potentially large volumes of stock
· Offer support to the expansion of the Age UK Sheffield charity shop network
· Contribute to a positive and friendly working environment
· Implement health and safety, GDPR and fire safety policies and completing regular health and safety checks
· Dealing with banking and keeping accurate and up to date records
· Keeping weekly KPI statistics
· Use social media and other marketing initiatives to raise the profile of the shop
· Work within Age UK Sheffield’s policies and procedures, contributing to their review and development as required
· Undertake necessary training and engage in the appraisal process as part of continuous service improvement, including offering a dementia friendly environment to customers
· Actively maintain good equal opportunities practice.
· Undertake any other tasks that can be reasonably expected within the scope and spirit of the job.
· Work flexibly to ensure appropriate staff cover in the shop, this may include occasionally working additional hours or covering in other shops

Arrangements to complement this post
1. Induction and training
All staff complete an induction at the start of their employment. Induction includes all Age UK Sheffield policies and procedures e.g. health and safety, confidentiality, staff handbook, and gives new staff the opportunity to shadow existing staff as they deliver Age UK Sheffield services.
Further training will be undertaken by the post holder in line with personal development plans and changes to organisational approaches/priorities.
