Job description

You will be able to oversee QTH's vision and strategic aims, support the work of senior leaders, fundraise from public and private sources and develop new and existing partnerships.

You will have worked with under represented and under served communities, have relevant experience as a manager, have successfully secured funding and be skilled in financial oversight.

QTH is the producing theatre serving Outer East London & South Essex, with a catchment area of 1 million+ people.

As a community hub, over 220,000 people enjoy the programme each year, including the best in home grown theatre, visiting live entertainment and inspiring community projects.

Behind the scenes, sets & costumes are lovingly created on-site by a highly skilled carpentry workshop, scenic artists, prop makers and wardrobe team.

Reporting to: Chair of the Board of Directors

Responsible for: Creative Directors, Director of Communities, Director of Audiences & Development, Project Director: Havering Changing, Head of Finance and Administration, Head of Customer Services and Facilities.

Hours: 39 hours, Project based evening and weekend work will be regularly required, for which time off in lieu applies.

Holiday: 20 days holiday pro-rata during each holiday year, plus public holidays. The holiday year runs from 1 April to 31 March.

Period of Notice: 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the effective delivery of QTH’s vision and strategic aims, with the close involvement of the Board, Senior Leadership Team and Senior Management Team.
  • Lead and develop the work of the Senior Leadership Team and Senior Management Team, to include supporting and developing the shared collaborative creative leadership of the organisation, and line manage and support Directors and Senior Managers not reporting to a Director. This may include any other permanent, temporary or freelance roles required.
  • Be the main point of contact for facilitating the work of the Board of Directors, including the Board subcommittees and task & finish groups, supporting the recruitment and induction of Directors and co-opted members. Facilitate the preparation of agendas and papers, appropriate attendance and reporting at all meetings by the Senior Leadership Team, and enabling the best charitable governance processes possible, to include the oversight of compliance and risk management.
  • Act as the main point of contact for Arts Council England and London Borough of Havering, as key stakeholders, including the preparation of applications, completion and oversight of funding agreements and reporting, and attendance at relevant meetings and briefings.
  • Undertake the equivalent function of Finance Director for QTH as part of this role, including the preparation of annual budgets, and monthly management accounts, and executive oversight of internal and external audit and processes.
  • Provide executive oversight of policy updates and implementations.
  • Act as executive lead in overseeing QTH's ambition to be a zero-carbon organisation by 2030.
  • Make public and private sector strategic fundraising bids for QTH projects and collaborations.
  • Develop and engage in new and existing international, national, regional and local partnerships targeted on responding to QTH’s vision and strategic aims.
  • Be an advocate and representative of QTH in a number of networks and on relevant occasions.
  • Progress best practice in evaluating and involving internal and external stakeholders in evaluating the work QTH does.

Person Specification

  • Substantial lived experience and / or a heightened empathy of working with underrepresented and underserved communities.
  • Relevant experience as a senior manager or leader within an organisation.
  • Have worked with or been part of a Board of non- executive directors.
  • A track record in contributing to organisational change.
  • Have successfully secured public and / or private sector funding for culture and / or a charity.
  • Significant practical experience in effectively overseeing the financial performance of an organisation.
  • A keen understanding of and / or interest in Outer East London  and South Essex as a place.
  • Experience of line managing colleagues and supporting the development of people.
  • An ability to work effectively in partnership.
  • An affinity with the importance of evaluating cultural activity.
  • A commitment to inclusion, diversity and equality of opportunity.
