Children’s Residential and Edge of Care worker

Grade H

Salary: From £29,269 up to £32,076 per annum pro rata

Location: Harrogate

Hours: Part time and Full-time hours available

Contract: Permanent

Closing date: 4th February 2024

The future is extremely bright with No Wrong Door Service, our team is growing and we are looking to expand our team of Children's Residential and Edge of Care workers and are look to recruit to full and part time vacancies. Join us as we ensure that every young person we work with gets the right support at the right time to meet their needs.

The role of a Children’s Residential and Edge of Care worker is invaluable, rewarding, complex and at times challenging, you will play an essential role in providing support and direct care to children and young people across a range of No Wrong door settings including in a residential children’s home, our supported accommodation for 16-18 year olds and through our community based Edge of Care outreach service which supports children and young people at risk of entering the care system.

Being able to work across all these areas brings variety to your work while contributing to developing your skills and practice.

We are looking for resilient, flexible, and motivated full and part time practitioners who have experience working with or volunteering with older children and young people (approx.12 – 18 and young adults up to 25). As part of your role you will work directly providing care and support to children and young people as well as fulfilling professional social care responsibilities including recording/report writing, safeguarding responsibilities, participating in statutory meetings and following Children’s Home regulations.

This is a very rewarding role yet at times it may be challenging due to the adverse childhood experiences and early childhood trauma the children and young people we support have experienced. To fully support you with this you will participate in a comprehensive programme of induction and training which ensures new recruits feel able to grow and develop into the role in a safe and supportive way. This makes sure staff are safe and ready to take on their roles in caring for children and young people.

For this role you need to hold an appropriate qualification as set out in the children’s home regulations or if you do not already hold this, you will need to be willing to complete this in the required time frame once in post and we will support you with this.

You will be working within the No Wrong Door Service which is a Multi-disciplinary integrated service for some of our most complex children young people. Most of who have had often faced adverse childhood experiences and a difficult start to life. These children need the compassionate care and the support from resilient, flexible and trusted adults who can build strong positive relationships with them to empower them to grow and develop.

The integrated team will stay with them throughout their No Wrong Door journey, be it to prevent entry to care, within the care system or coming out of it. We ensure children and young people have a dedicated, highly trained team around them, are supported as they move towards independence and never feel as though they are passed from service to service.

If you are passionate about supporting and improving the life chances and outcomes for some of North Yorkshire’s most vulnerable children and young people this is the role for you.

This role requires working a variety of shifts around a 24 hour Rota Monday to Sunday, this will include some sleep-in duties, evenings and a share of weekends and bank holidays.

We welcome any interested applicants to contact Teri Owens, Group Manager on email Teri.Owens@northyorks.gov.uk for an informal conversation.
