Job description

The role of a Rights and Participation Worker keeps children and young people views and experiences at the heart of the Trust every day, so we are looking for someone with substantive experience of working with and advocating on behalf of children and young people.

We are proud to be an Equal Opportunities Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees - a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit.
We actively deliver services that are culturally responsive to the needs of the children, parents and carers we work with to deliver equality, diversity and inclusivity in all we do.

In this role you will need to provide advocacy to children and young and provide a key role in supporting our children and young people’s participation groups.

The advocacy role will require you to address advocacy referrals allocated to you to support children and young people to have a say or challenge decisions being made about them.

In this role you will need to be able to build relationships with children and young people. You will have to attend a variety of professional forums and support children and young people to ensure their wishes and feelings are heard and that they are involved in key decisions that impact on them.

Our children and young people are central to increasing the Trust and external partners understanding of lived experiences and the impact of the services they deliver. Young people are heavily involved in service improvement, policy, practice, recruitment & training. In this role you can play a part in supporting changes to services. Our children and young people run their own campaigns and have influence within the Trust as well as having impact on regional and national changes.

Birmingham Children’s Trust is going from strength to strength. We are the largest provider of family support and social care services for children, young people and families in the country. Our goal is to become a centre of excellence in both social care and family support.

This role is based at The Lighthouse Young People’s Centre in Birmingham and also encompasses the Trust’s progression of flexible remote working.

The challenges are big, but the opportunities are great! In return we offer up to 34 days annual leave, a final salary pension and a range of employee benefits.

We are a close & supportive team with a breadth of knowledge & skills which we use to challenge & encourage change on behalf of young people. You will have relevant skills and experience, but your value base and passion are just as important. I’m happy to let you know more about the role and the team, please email
