Purpose of the Post: To work as a member of the hostel staff team in ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the hostel for people seeking asylum. You will work Monday to Friday 25 hours per week (9am -2pm)
(some weekends and Bank Holidays may be required for which overtime is payable)
Main Responsibilities:
- To maintain the cleanliness of interior surfaces of Urban Housing Services buildings.
- To ensure service users have clean linen and towels on a weekly basis.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment working within all regulatory and legislative guidelines
- Ensure that all services meet Urban Housing Services specified standards and service levels.
Duties:
- Vacuum, polish and dust surfaces.
- Ensure that all surfaces including floors, windows, skirting boards, tables, bathroom and sanitary ware and soft furnishings such as rugs, curtains, seat covers, linen and towels are clean and in good repair.
- To make ready vacated rooms in the hostel for new arrivals
- To issue welcome packs to service users and issue as required.
- Liaise with the House Keeper for ordering of cleaning materials and ensuring female hygiene bins are regularly emptied.
- Instruct Service User’s to empty waste bins from service user rooms
- Empty bins around the hostel as required.
- To oversee the collection and delivery of linen from an external laundry agency, if required.
- Report to the Housekeeper and/or Deputy Hostel Manager Issues concerning repairs and maintenance.
- To ensure that all Health and Safety rules and regulations pertaining to hygiene and cleanliness are adhered to.
- To implement issues arising from Health and Safety inspections within an agreed timescale as directed by the Housekeeper and Management team.
- Assist and befriend Service Users whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
- Monitor the use of cleaning appliances and submit requests for further equipment purchases to the House Keeper.
- Work in shift patterns.

- Work within and promote the company’s policies and procedures
- To wear correct uniform, shoes and protective gear in line with Urban Housing Services’ policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- To assist with the induction and dispersal of service users
- Maintain the confidentiality of details surrounding the service users, operations, policies and procedures of the Urban Housing Services.
- Work within all Urban Housing Services’ policies & procedures
- Take part in the Urban Housing Services core training.
- Take on any relevant duties as required for the proper performance of the role.
Qualifications
Training in Health & Safety, COSHH, Manual Handling
Experience / Knowledge and Skills
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Patience to deal with individuals who speak little or no English.
The ability to communicate well in English, both verbally and in writing.
Basic IT skills.
This post is subject to a DBS check & BPSS check.
