School Cleaner

Location:Scalby School

Contract: Permanent

Hours/ Working Pattern: 15 hours per week: Monday – Friday: 3pm- 6pm or 3:30pm- 6:30pm. Job share considered.

Salary / Hourly Rate: Grade AB SCP 2, £11.59 per hour.

Closing Date: Wednesday 10th April 2024, 9am. Interviews to be held shortly after.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

We have a vacancy available for a reliable and committed cleaner to work within our existing team to clean the school.

You must be enthusiastic with a can-do attitude and be capable of working as part of a team as well as working alone.

Previous experience is not essential as full training is given. Uniform provided. Opportunity to work compressed hours during school holidays.

Scalby Secondary School

Scalby School is a successful and popular 11-16 community school based in picturesque seaside town of Scarborough on the North Yorkshire Coast. We currently have approximately 1000 students on roll. In recent years we have become the school of choice in our local community. Our P8 score in 2019 placed us in the top 20% of schools nationally again.

Coast and Vale Learning Trust is a growing family of schools located on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast. The Trust was founded by Scalby Secondary School but has grown over the last few years to include Newby and Scalby Primary School, Friarage Primary School and Scarborough University Technical College (SUTC) in Scarborough, Lady Lumley’s Secondary School in Pickering, and Filey Secondary School in Filey. Our ambition is to continue to welcome new schools into our Trust where we can add capacity, resources, improvement and make sure all our young people have access to the very best education.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST: Cleaner

15 hours per week, Monday - Friday 3pm - 6pm or 3:30pm- 6:30pm Job share considered. (Can be flexible in the school holidays)

28 days holiday entitlement, plus bank holidays pro rata.

GRADE: Grade AB, SCP2

RESPONSIBLE TO: Cleaning Supervisor

STAFF MANAGED: None

JOB PURPOSE:

To provide a high quality, effective cleaning service to ensure a clean and hygienic environment for all building users.

JOB CONTEXT:

The caretaker and cleaning team as a whole are responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the school.

The post is required to work with cleaning equipment and products which contain chemicals, but the necessary protective clothing will be provided

Enhanced DBS check is required for this post due to working within a school environment

ACCOUNTABILITIES / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Issues

  • To carry out cleaning duties within allocated timescales and to take a flexible approach in order to meet the schools requirements.

Duties will include (but not exhaustive):

  • General dusting of furniture, fixings and fittings
  • Dust control mopping/sweeping of floors
  • Vacuuming floors
  • Cleaning and polishing floors using electrical buffing machine
  • Damp/wet mopping of floors
  • Polishing furniture, cleaning internal glass
  • Cleaning of sanitary fittings
  • To use cleaning materials as instructed
  • Specialist cleaning (e.g. stripping & sealing of floors)
  • Emptying of waste paper bins
  • Wiping surfaces, fixtures and fittings & paintwork

Communications

  • Communicate effectively with other members of staff and pupils within the school.

Resource management

  • To participate in the training and development and performance management processes within the school
  • Store cleaning equipment and products safely and securely

Safeguarding

  • To be committed to safeguarding and promote the welfare of children, young people and adults, raising concerns as appropriate.

Systems and Information

  • To fulfil the necessary administrative tasks associated with the responsibilities of the post.

Data Protection

  • To comply with the Trust’s policies and supporting documentation in relation to Information Governance this includes Data Protection, Information Security and Confidentiality.

Health and Safety

  • Be aware of and implement your health and safety responsibilities as an employee and where appropriate any additional specialist or managerial health and safety responsibilities as defined in the Health and Safety policy and procedure.
  • To work with colleagues and others to maintain health, safety and welfare within the working environment.
  • Perform duties in line with health & safety regulations (COSHH) and take action where hazards are identified, reporting serious hazards to line manager immediately
