Job Information

The role

Make a real difference in achieving Northumberland’s net-zero goals. You will lead and manage the Council’s Climate Change Team and be the Council’s principal technical advisor developing strategy and policy on Climate Change. You will ensure the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan is kept under regular review and make sure that key programmes and projects are being delivered and new opportunities identified and progressed from business case development through into delivery stage.

You will have management responsibility for a dynamic and highly motivated team consisting of circa 23 employees, including programme and project staffing resource and data analysts, with scope to develop and grow the team further as new funding opportunities come forward for Climate Change activities. Currently responsible for managing a gross service budget of £0.610 million revenue and £9.536 million capital, associated with diverse projects and programmes ranging from environmental education and public engagement events through to development of district heating schemes, renewable energy generation and carbon sequestration initiatives.

You will be passionate about the environment and an excellent communicator, with the ability to evaluate complex information and disseminate this to a wide range of audiences, building positive relationships to support the development and delivery of the County’s Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan.

Location: County Hall Morpeth/remote (once a week in the office required).

Requirements-
. A degree, higher degree, professional qualifications and/or NVQ Level 5 or equivalent standard in a relevant subject; plus recent and relevant post qualification training, additional qualifications and experience in a relevant context. 
. Evidence of having undertaken programme and project development and management in relation to Climate Change issues and challenges. 
. In-depth knowledge of Climate Change laws, regulations, policies, procedures, trends, and developments and project/programme management theory, practice and procedures and be PRINCE2 qualified or willing to undertake the practitioner qualification. 

You will also be able to meet the transport requirements of the post that entails travel to meeting venues, area offices or training venues throughout the County and further afield on occasion, including some evening working.
