The Lead Risk Officer and Climate Risk Stress Testing Manager role will be part of the Risk and Compliance Transformation team. Reporting into one of the Senior Risk Officers within Wholesale Credit Risk Management, the ideal candidate for this dual faceted role will be an individual with previous experience with commercial/corporate credit analysis and/or risk approvals. A keen interest and/or direct experience in Climate Risk matters would be advantageous.

You will be responsible for i) providing credit approvals and recommendations on credit submissions received from Relationship Management Teams and ii) will coordinate HSBC UK Wholesale Credit Risk Management’s Climate Risk Stress Testing activities to support internal and external (regulatory requirements). The core part of this exciting role will be focused on commercial/ corporate risk approvals; however, the Climate Risk Stress Testing element will grow over time.

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Lead Risk Officer and Climate Risk Stress Testing Manager.

In this role, you will:

•    Provide concise, well-reasoned approvals/recommendations within appropriate timescales and ensure decisions are consistent with HSBC Group’s risk appetite. You will also be required to actively challenge credit requests, where appropriate, to ensure risks are acceptable to the bank. This may require engagement with product partners and other key stakeholders across the bank to ensure you take a balanced view on the overall risk.
•    Have an opportunity to help sculpture HSBC UK’s Climate Risk Stress Testing exercise and provide feedback to ensure appropriate risk considerations are incorporated.
•    Over time, build capability to provide subject matter expertise/ advice to other Risk Officers to support the design, development, and delivery of methodologies linked to Climate Risk Stress Testing assessments across the portfolio. 
•    Take an active approach to review and analyse the portfolio MI and Stress Testing results and confidently challenges testing results and provide updates to senior management with a view of recommending any actions that need to be made.
•    Work collaboratively with regional and global stakeholders within Wholesale Credit Risk.  Climate Risk Managers, Global Risk Analytics and Senior Stakeholders to assist in the development of reporting and data requirements to help HSBC deliver on its Climate ambition and its Regulatory obligations.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•    The successful candidate will have a background in credit risk analysis. Possess a knowledge/understanding of sound credit practices/regulatory requirements and their transition into meaningful un-bureaucratic policies/standards.
•    Understanding of climate related risks with the skill to lead Wholesale Credit Risk’s approach to climate risk stress testing.
•    Have experience in confidently liaising with senior stakeholders as this will be required when communicating findings related to credit and climate risk. 
•    Will have knowledge/understanding of climate risk issues to be able to challenge methodologies and models used for stress testing.
•    Knowledge of Wholesale lending products at HSBC.

The base location for this role is Birmingham / Hybrid.
