Job description


The Anaesthetic Department seeks a motivated trainee at FY3+ level to join the team. The successful candidate will work in the Intensive Care Unit as duty doctor during daytime hours and will join the anaesthetic/ICU on-call rota as part of an on-call group for out-of-hours work. Frimley Park Hospital is a busy DGH with significant amount of out-of-hours work. Team working, enthusiasm and good communication skills are essential for this post.
The post is for 6-12 months with a starting from August 2024.
The 12 bedded intensive care unit at Frimley Park Hospital offers Level 2 and 3 care with approximately 750 admissions each year. The patient workload is that expected in a DGH ICU as well as the additional work that arises from Frimley’s tertiary services. The intensive care unit is supported by medical and surgical high dependency areas for Level 1 and 2 patients. There is also a comprehensive critical care outreach service which is supported by a dedicated critical care consultant.
1) Clinical Experience
Clinical Fellow FY3 Level. The post is suitable for post foundation trainees who wish to gain experience in intensive care medicine.
• The post will provide experience in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine. An introduction to airway management can be provided if required.
2) Teaching
• Weekly consultant-led teaching in topics relevant to anaesthesia and ICM.
• The department has a strong emphasis on safety and quality with a monthly M&M meeting which is attended by all staff. The post holder will be encouraged to present and take part in the discussion of cases at this meeting.
3) Clinical Audit
• The post holder is expected to take part in clinical audit of topics pertinent to intensive care and anaesthesia.
4) Timetable
The post holder will take part in the trainee on-call rota on a 1:8 full shift pattern, being on call for the Intensive Care Unit. On-call trainees are expected to work collaboratively as team and to offer support to other members of the on-call team. The trainees are supported by an intensive care consultant and an anaesthetic consultant who are on site until 22:00 and on-call from home
