Job description

Applicants both with and without airway skills/previous anaesthetic experience are invited for this post at junior/introductory level.
The post is for 6 months initially with the option to extend to 1 year. The post will start in August 2024.
This Junior Clinical Fellow post would suit applicants wishing either an introduction to or further experience in Critical Care medicine whilst they are awaiting ST appointments or preparing for examinations.
Applicants for this post will have the opportunity to work alongside CT and ST trainees from Anaesthetics and Medicine in a post recognised for Intensive Care training. They will benefit from a full active teaching programme and will complete Workplace Assessments and Competencies in Intensive Care Medicine. They will work on the ICU, with the Outreach Team and gain training with the Anaesthetic Team in theatres on a regular basis. They will also have the opportunity to take part in research and career development is supported and encouraged.
A wide experience of patient management
Practical interventions and both bedside and formal teaching are offered.
Consultant supervision is available on a 24-hour basis from Consultant Intensivists.
Opportunities may arise for the Clinical Fellow to take part in research and career development is actively encouraged.
Experience in anaesthesia available.

2.1 JOB SUMMARY
This Junior Fellow post would suit applicants seeking further experience in Critical Care medicine whilst they are awaiting ST appointments or preparing for examinations .
The post is for six months in the first instance but may be extended at mutual agreement.
The shift pattern for this post comprises long days (08:00-20:30) and night shifts (19:30-08:30) There is currently an 8 week rolling rota. This rota is within the maximum hours for Working Time Directive compliance and junior doctors may be expected to undertake the occasional extra shift as required, given reasonable notice
Study leave will be granted in accordance with the Trust’s policies and procedures.
The trainee will be provided with PC access to the Trusts information systems, internet and Trust intranet.
Teaching and Postgraduate Education
The main medical library is in the Postgraduate Education Centre at the Royal Surrey where the books and journals are kept. Subscriptions are held with lending libraries. Journals and photocopying arrangements with the National Lending Library are available to all doctors to study. There are also tape, slide, and video tape and internet facilities. The main library is fully staffed by librarians. The Regional Library and the Regional Drug Information Service are based at the Postgraduate Centre.
Surrey University Campus is adjacent to the hospital and provides excellent opportunities for collaboration in research. The New Postgraduate Medical School building opened in 2005, and houses the MATTU (minimal access therapy training unit). The European Institute of Health Studies which is situated in Guildford provides training for nurses, midwives and other health care professionals both from the Trust and throughout Health Authority. The University of Surrey provides BSc (Hons) Nursing Degree programme.
The combined medical teams hold a weekly journal club, and there is a structured postgraduate education programme for Foundation level and Core Medical Trainees in addition to departmental education. The hospital wide Post Graduate Educational half day takes place eight times per year and incorporates a Grand Round.
