Job description


We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Specialist Nurse in Rheumatology at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust based at New Cross Hospital.
Consideration will be given to recruiting a band five nurse with Rheumatology experience with relevant training being provided. You will be working in conjunction with an established team of specialist nurses and the rest of the rheumatology team. The emphasis will be very much on supporting the screening and monitoring of patients on treatments and disease modifying medication, including systemic and biological therapies, under the guidance of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Nurse and Consultant Rheumatologists. You will be responsible for screening, providing education, advice and follow up to support and empower patients to manage their own conditions effectively, thereby improving quality of life.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the management of the unit, assist in the appraisal process and make a significant contribution to the Clinical Governance agenda.
For this high profile and challenging role, a specialist interest in and knowledge of rheumatology is required. You will need clinical experience working in a rheumatology setting at band 5 level or above. Mentorship and full training will be given through a local rheumatology competency assessment framework to the successful candidate. Following successful completion of competencies, the specialist nurse will be expected to undertake the non-medical prescribing course to support prescribing within the team
To work autonomously managing own caseload working closely with all members of the multi professional team to ensure that patients receive seamless rheumatology care within the Organization and community. To provide specialist rheumatology advice to support the assessment, planning and implementation of patients care, and where appropriate deliver programmes of care and education to patients with diseases who are being treated with topical, systemic and biologic therapies. To competently carry out specialist nursing procedures. To contribute to specialist education and training programmes for other staff and learners.
