Job description

The post holder will work alongside clinical staff in all zones of the Emergency Department, providing support, coaching, role modelling and education in a kind and approachable manner always adhering to the trust values. The post holder will work three clinical shifts per roster period Monday to Friday (condensed hours into 4 day week will be considered ) clinically team leading areas of the department ensuring all policies are adhered too. The post holder will participate in the delivery of practice-based education, mandatory training, alongside continuing professional development for non-medical staff of all levels, including training and retention of all new staff. Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skill and understanding of Clinical Practice within the Emergency Department, acting as resource and a role model to a wide range of colleagues within Emergency Care. Maintain academic credibility to ensure own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge by successful completion of post registration courses relevant to Emergency Nursing. Supports the Lead Nurse in designing, planning and delivering simulation training sessions to the ED workforce alongside colleagues within the department such as Sim fellows and the trust education team in response to themes arising from incidents, bridging gaps from theory in to practice and skill gap analysis key themes. Work with the Lead Nurse in ensuring all relevant frameworks including the NMC and Trust Standards for learning, development and assessments are implemented and embedded in to nursing practice. Support all registrants in their NMC revalidation journey dates providing assurance to the senior team that all are up to date. The post holder will work alongside clinical staff, providing support, coaching, role modelling and education in a kind and approachable manner always adhering to the trust values. The post holder with supervision will contribute in the development of nurse education by networking with relevant teams, forums, colleagues, councils, agencies, education authorities and be responsible for consistently monitoring and evaluating outcomes by means of feedback analysis and audit of safe effective care. The Post holder with supervision will actively participate in quality and safety, clinical governance and specific work streams including risk teams to ensure service delivery is of a high standard. Participate in updating and developing relevant clinical guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures to support safe, effective evidence based care. The post holder accept delegated tasks from within the ED education team and Matron Team to ensure all required competencies, mandatory training, training needs are met in a timely manner and processes are in place to record / access all training. Promote shared governance within the educational model that aligns with the Magnet 4 Europe programme. Collaboratively work alongside colleagues in designing and delivering bespoke online / digital learning platforms to enhance modern day nurse education within the Emergency Department. The post holder will deputise for the Education Nurse lead when required Promote and share achievements, developments and ideas by using trust publications and social media to showcase and share learning to wider teams. Work with robust electronic processes that are in place to maintain and update records of all relevant educational training of ED staff that is accessible to senior leadership teams in view of potential inspections and assurances. Actively contributes and participates in teaching, supervising, mentoring and assessing all staff undertaking continuing development and students undertaking programmes leading to a professional qualification. Undertakes clinical supervision and assessment of others including student and other vocational qualifications such as NVQ. Undertakes and contributes in the delivery and management of mandatory training within required timescales, meeting training requirements to achieve the highest possible compliance at all times. Contributes to all education activities and supports key workers / train the trainers in delivering education and training. Creates and maintains a learning environment that promotes a learning culture for all staff and students promoting the use of E-learning to meet relevant standards whilst providing evidence of achievement. Participates and contributes to the process of writing a research proposal and is aware of the Trust R&D Approval policy and the process for ethical approval. Carries out relevant clinical audit. Supports the Lead Nurse and in conjunction with the Risk Management Team in identifying key risk issues to inform education provision regularly. Support in the development of nursing models and evidence based care which contribute to the quality of the patients experience. Works as part of the multidisciplinary team fostering good interdepartmental relationships and helping to achieve high morale for patients and staff and continuous quality improvement. Promotes programmes of health education and health promotion and involves patients and carers appropriately in decision-making. Deals effectively and sensitively with patients issues collaborating with the PALS service, follows the Trust Policy on handling complaints. Actively participates in all aspects of the clinical governance process relevant to role Promotes infection control, environmental safety and effective risk management. Works within national policy frameworks relevant to the patient group and specialty area i.e. Child Protection, Vulnerable Adults, Mental Health Act. Has awareness in the promotion of effective and economic management of resources available within the area of budget management. Clinically and professionally expected to make autonomous decisions on a daily basis including provision of advice to junior staff in clinical decision making. Supports service development, identifies and promotes the need for change, motivates the clinical team to embrace change and manage the change process. Establishes clear, positive and credible practice within the clinical team, promotes and supports the maintenance of a cohesive multi-disciplinary and multi-organisational Actively team leads zones within the Emergency Department and works clinically to deliver safe and effective patient care ensuring all policies are adhered too. Participates in and develops clinical policies, protocols and clinical pathways to promote safe effective nursing care. Conducts Individual Performance Review of staff and promotes the development of staff through effective KSF and CPD. Contributes to organised departmental meetings, organisational meetings and Q&S within the department. Actively participates in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff. Promotes all Magnet for Europe initiatives / projects and promotes shared governance within the department and trust. The post holder is familiar and works within the BTHFT Nursing and Midwifery Strategy Responsible for the implementation and updating of evidence based nursing care as apart of the departments education strategy. Supports staff to carry out relevant research to validate their Clinical Practice. Utilises Library services independently and to support staff in promote research. Disseminates best practice through written publications and/or presentations both internally and externally, as appropriate. Is willing to showcase improvement work and present at conferences / meetings Supports the Education Team administration support in maintaining robust systems that are in place to provide an organised approach to recording all staff training and related documents.
