This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Research Fellow to help design, set-up and perform a new human model of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) skin infection. This model will be used to study the early host-pathogen interactions and evolution of the immune response following staphylococcal infection, and to develop better diagnostic definitions and tests for skin and soft tissue infection.
The successful applicant will have responsibilities ranging from contribution to the design and setup of the study (including submission for approvals where needed), to ensuring the safe conduct of the study and collection of clinical data. Further opportunities exist, ideally as part of application for a higher degree such as a PhD, to focus on one or more areas of research relating to the model. This may include focus on the qualitative feedback from participants to optimise their experience or on one or more of the clinical translational or scientific aims. The project includes collaboration with investigators at other academic and commercial sites in the UK and abroad and therefore there is also an opportunity to experience and participate in the development of these collaborations and further potential research opportunities.
