We have an exciting opportunity to undertake a Clinical Research Fellowship available as part of the NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) within our Imaging and Engineering for Health theme, focused on developing systems engineering models of clinical pathways for patients with unexplained breathlessness.

Our BRC brings together exceptional scientists from The University of Sheffield and clinical experts at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, driving the development of new treatments, diagnostics, and medical technologies.
This fellowship will offer comprehensive experience of translational clinical data science and associated computational modelling. As a Clinical Fellow, you'll join a dynamic team of research clinicians and scientists, exploring cutting-edge Clinical Research techniques as part of patient-focused projects. You may have the opportunity to present at conferences and stay up to date with the latest advancements in your field. You will also unlock a world of opportunities as a member of the NIHR Sheffield BRC Training Academy (BTA) and the broader NIHR Academy, benefitting from career-based mentoring, SPARC placements, targeted seminars, and bespoke courses.
Aimed towards pre- or post- MRCP candidates who have an interest in GP, cardiothoracic medicine or emergency medicine as a future career path, this comprehensive fellowship is focused on mapping out patient pathways for patients with unexplained breathlessness to inform and characterize systems engineering models of these pathways using discrete event simulation. For this, you will be working with system engineers in the BRC Imaging and Engineering theme, the AMRC and the Insigneo institute.
The 12-month funding affords an opportunity to learn the principles and practice of data driven computational modelling and the experience, time and support network required to submit applications for a future PhD position in the area. For suitable candidates keen to develop this post further, there may also be the opportunity to extend the funding to 24 months to enable the candidate to undertake an MD, if interested.
We are seeking candidates with an MBBS, or an equivalent medical qualification, as well as a full GMC registration and a current license to practice medicine. You will also need at least 2 years of General Professional Training with direct patient care experience and an understanding of Good Clinical Practice, In addition to experience of digital healthcare and electronic patient record data entry.
