Locations: Ipswich, Cheltenham, London
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, you may be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.
Security isn't always the first thing that comes to mind when you think of BT, but when it comes to keeping everyone safely connected, We Are the Protectors. We deal with thousands of cyber-attacks every day, so that millions of people can safely go about their daily lives and run their businesses. We deliver vital work at scale, with real breadth and impact. We connect for good.
You'll be joining a specialist security team that is a trusted partner to governments worldwide, protecting critical national infrastructure and committed to the safety and security of our nation and global communities. Our mission focused work is innovative, inspiring, and technologically challenging in a way that makes every day different and stimulating. We provide the opportunity to work on rare projects, with exciting tools and brilliant people. Everyone has access to unparalleled professional and personal development opportunities and your contribution is always valued.
Why this job matters:
Joining our cloud delivery team, you'll be working within a fast paced, constantly evolving team, that delivers world class secure cloud solutions that make a real difference to our customers.
The team is customer focused so you'll have the opportunity to work directly with end customers, understand their requirements, and lead the design of cloud solutions that make a significant difference in protecting the society in which we live.
You'll have the opportunity to be deeply hands on in delivery, as well as help support and develop less experienced members of the team, using your own cloud and professional experience to support their ongoing professional development.
You'll have numerous opportunities to grow and develop your career, as we actively look to support our team's professional development, especially in an area as ever changing as cloud.
What you'll do:
  • Provide the technical direction for the development and delivery of world class secure cloud-based solutions.
  • Work directly with our customers to understand their requirements and work collaboratively with them to define solutions.
  • Lead the design of cloud-based solutions as well as be hands on in their development as part of agile delivery teams.
  • Translate architectural designs into infrastructure-as-code defined solutions.
  • Working with support teams to enable management and monitoring of cloud-based systems, and their ongoing support.
  • Provide some third line support to deployed cloud-based solutions.
  • Ensure compliance of cloud systems with security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Either line manage or act as a technical mentor to others in the team, assisting them with their ongoing professional development.
  • Act as a cloud subject matter expert and evangelist, leading organisational cloud adoption strategies and embedding best practice approaches.
What you'll bring:
  • Have deep expertise utilising cloud services, both compute and appropriate managed services. Primarily in AWS, but any expertise in Azure and GCP would be relevant as well.
  • Have experience with cloud architectures and the ability to appropriately apply the relevant techniques. For example, AWS Well Architected Framework and Event-driven workflows.
  • Be able to apply software engineering principles to complex systems at scale.
  • Have experience maintaining and operating capabilities through-life.
  • Have a desire to continually update, enhance and validate own skills.
You may also have:
  • Have deep expertise managing infrastructure-as-code, for example using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Have experience using scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, etc) to define processes and serverless functions.
  • Have experience with Micro-service and container-based deployment strategies, and a zero-trust authorization model.
  • Have experience with iterative full-stack MVC web development in appropriate languages (for example node.js or python).
  • Have experience with agile delivery processes.
  • Have experience in internal and external stakeholder management and engagement.
  • Have some experience in either line managing a team or mentoring and developing less experienced members of the team, assisting in their ongoing professional development.
  • Have some cloud certifications, though while desirable practical experience is more important.
Diversity and Inclusion:
Diversity makes sense for us, for our customers and for our future. We value different perspectives, skills, and experiences, and encourage applications from all sections of the community. Our ambition focuses on recruiting and retaining people who are under-represented in our workforce. Including those from ethnic minority groups, disabled and neurodiverse people and women. However, diversity does not end there and anyone with different backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, ethnicities, ages or stages of life, disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to apply. Find out more about BT's D&I manifesto by searching on our website.
What's in it for you:
  • Discounted BT Broadband, TV & mobile packages and BT products
  • On target Bonus
  • 10% pension contribution
  • Professional development and paid for industry certifications/qualifications.
  • Flexible benefits/rewards including dental insurance, healthcare, gym memberships etc.
  • Well-being support for you and your family
  • 3 days paid volunteering a year.
  • Flexible and smart working (subject to business needs)
Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification and criteria. So, if you're excited about this role but your past-experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement, don't worry - we'd still love you to apply!
