Job description

Main Duties

The Role

As a member of Materials & Insight team headed by Katie Kubrak you will work across a range of industries including fashion, packaging, FMCG, retail interiors, consumer electronics and more.

Within the department you will have an opportunity to create and execute world-class products in terms of colour, material, and finish R&D.

You will be involved in every aspect of the CMF design process. This includes trend research, analysis and translation, mood and story creation, material innovation, development of CMF strategy, and execution of final colour, materials, and finishes for production. Depending on project your involvement will vary.

All our projects are required to be feasible for production, so you will learn how to ensure that proposed innovation is achievable in a real life scenario. This also means that you will be required to push boundaries, while collaborating with global suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation into production.

At Nirvana CPH, we also have our own in-house library. Part of your role will be to help manage existing samples and ensure library is up to date with what’s newest. You might also be asked to support our Marketing Manager in creating engaging content for our social media platforms, which aims to promote our work.

As in every professional position there is a proportion of admin one needs to do. You will be trained to do all of that and reacquired to successfully complete it within set deadlines, so other departments within the business are not held back.

To be a successful candidate you need to demonstrate:

  • BA/MA degree in Product/Industrial/Textile Design or relevant (this can be as part of your work placement year)
  • Knowledge and sensitivity of colours, materials and finishes
  • Clear understanding of where relevant information can be sourced from
  • Good writing skills
  • Portfolio that showcases your experience and projects across CMF
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Are comfortable operating in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Ability to create compelling and innovative solutions
  • Hold superior standards for quality and attention to detail
  • Have a keen eye for sophisticated design
  • Build strong relationships with other team members

To be a successful candidate you need to demonstrate:

  • Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • IOS (Pages, Keynote)
  • Adobe (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)
  • 3D rendering software will be an added bonus

Benefits

  • This is a paid position (to be disclosed upon interviewing stage and is subject to experience)
  • Benefits included (to be disclosed upon interviewing stage)

Please note that you need to be eligible to work within UK to apply for this position. This means when applying you should already hold a National Insurance number.

What will the internship offer the student and what will they learn while they are with you? E.g. skills they could learn/develop and experience they could gain.

Materials & Insights

Materials & Insight department closely monitors the latest news, trends and happenings from across the different areas in which we work. We draw on more than a decade of experience to provide bespoke feedback for our range of international clients, regularly released insight reports, as well as interviews and features that champion our in-house expertise and that of our extensive network of partners. We work across consumer electronics, packaging, fashion, beauty and more. We also come up with, organise and curate industry events that are part of Clerkenwell Design Week or London Design Festival. These include but are not limited to: “Sustainable Stories”, “Tactility Speaks Paper” or “London in Seven Scents”.

CMF Design Approach / Material Driven Design (MDD) Method

At the Materials & Insight department we apply CMF Design as well as MDD Method. CMF Design is a niche area of creative industry and design that focuses on the chromatic, tactile and decorative identity of products and environments. In this approach, ‘material’ (as well as its colour and finish) should elicit meaningful user experiences in and beyond its utilitarian assessment. This requires qualifying the material not only for what it is, but also for what it does, what it expresses to us, what it elicits from us, and what it makes us do. This is where Material Driven Design (MDD) method helps to facilitate designing for material experiences. Hear from our Head of Insight Katie Kubrak on our work and approach within the department here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZscOJTQ_x8&t=317s
