But how do we care for our special places, while helping everyone to enjoy them and their fascinating stories? It’s no small task. In fact, it’s a big team effort and it’s why our Collections Assistant are so important.
Hours: Part time 25 hours per week over 4 days, the shift pattern will be:
- Wednesday 8am – 2:00pm
- Thursday 8am – 2:00pm
- Friday 8am – 5:00pm
- Saturday 8am – 12:30pm, you'll be required to work weekends and bank holidays.
Salary: £11.64 per hour. This is our anticipated salary from 1st April but is subject to final confirmation following the Trust’s annual pay review process.

What it's like to work hereYou’ll be reporting to the Senior Collections & House Officer, working alongside three Collections Assistants and a team of dedicated volunteers.
Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, Lyme was once home to the Legh family and, in its heyday a great sporting estate. The 1,400 acre estate with its medieval herd of red deer offers fantastic walks and stunning views.
With it's many treasures the house is lively and fun, where you step back in time 200 years - a time which saw great rejuvenation for Lyme, even getting the chance to dress in costume and experience the house in Regency style.

What you'll be doingIn this visitor facing role, you’ll carry out conservation in action, talking to visitors about the work you’re doing and the collections we care for. You’ll engage visitors by delivering bespoke tours, giving an insight into the work we do. You’ll assist in keeping up to date and accurate collections records of the property and its contents.
Your role supports year-round displays and exhibitions, including undertaking the movement of objects, planning routine collections care and the safe storage of items.
Regularly between 8am - 11am you’ll be cleaning the house, getting it ready to open to visitors.
You’ll lead a team of Conservation Volunteers to deliver engaging conservation in action tasks. You’ll work with a varied collection of textiles, ceramics, paintings and more. No two days are the same whether you’re winding clocks, completing pest monitoring or checking light levels.
You’ll be provided with in-house training opportunities relevant to the role. There may be occasions where you’ll be required to support other roles ensuring the smooth running of the visitor experience within the house.
