Three-year Fixed Term Contract


Are you ready to be at the forefront of sustainability innovation in the world-renowned University of Oxford? We're on the lookout for an exceptional individual to step into the role of Colleges Sustainability Officer.


This isn't just a job; it's a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative effort involving nine of Oxford's prestigious Colleges, facilitating partnerships between the Colleges, the central University, and wider higher education networks; and steering the course toward a more sustainable future. Even though the postholder will collaborate with nine colleges, their role is embedded within the central University Estates Sustainability Team.


Your primary mission is to provide strategic guidance and unwavering support on all things sustainability, influencing positive change across our participating Colleges.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Leading the development of sustainable strategies and policies for participating Colleges.
  • Providing advice and support on all aspects of sustainability, fostering collaboration on joint initiatives.
  • Facilitating partnerships between Colleges, the central University, and wider higher education networks.
  • Advising on procurement of consultancy and professional services for sustainability projects.

The ideal candidate will possess:


  • A degree along with relevant practical experience
  • Possess a passion for sustainability across the environment, society, and the natural world.
  • Have a track record of turning sustainability vision into reality in complex organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills, producing clear, compelling reports and presentations.
  • Thrive on building relationships, influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven leadership experience in a large, complex organisation or consulting service delivering into a large complex organisation.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of environmental issues in higher education.
  • Experience in the higher education sector.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with pressure/interest groups.
