About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, but our preference is for you to be based in Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

As the UK Transitions to net zero, the SSER Hydro fleet will continue to be a key enabler to renewables growth, thanks to its capability to deliver green energy safely and reliably all year round. Utilising the power of water in some of the most scenic locations in Scotland, the Hydro Asset Management (AM) team work to safely and effectively deliver the energy people need, at the right times, through optimisation of its immense storage capability. We are looking to grow the team to bring in new skills and capabilities, building on the strong history of renewable energy delivery.

As Commercial Manager, youll be accountable for reviewing business cases and justifications, considering impact on compliance, safety, capability and key revenue drivers. Youll also act as a key contact point and represent Hydros interests during project design, development and construction activities between Hydro and third parties.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include:

- Representing the Hydro Asset Management business in third party activities, working collaboratively to optimise solutions and mitigate risks and impacts.

- Managing stakeholders to ensure delivery of project objectives and actions.

- Collaborating with subject matter experts across SSE to ensure the quality of works delivered is to the required standards.

- Supporting the Investment Management team in assessment of the commercial impact projects may have on Hydro's proposed running regimes, with view on how to challenge and optimise where possible.

- Providing formal updates to key stakeholders and Project Review Boards on progress, risks and the commercial impacts to Generation performance.

- Managing responses to technical proposals and change programmes associated with the distribution and transmission level electrical infrastructure that connects the Hydro assets to the Grid network.

What do I need?

Central to this position is strong stakeholder management skills, and the ability to best represent the interests of the Hydro business in commercial and technical challenges.

We would also love you to have:

- Experience in Commercial Management, Stakeholder Management or an appropriate business-related discipline.

- A solid understanding of the key levers of profitability for Hydro, with demonstrable numeracy skills in the context of financial performance, focusing particularly on valuing and optimising asset outage periods and the associated lost opportunity of not capturing market value.

- Capability to understand and then distil complex technical proposals into key messages for internal stakeholders, utilising subject matter experts and appreciation of commercial impacts to form, present and deliver the optimum position for the Hydro business.

- Proven ability in achieving successful outcomes through negotiation and influencing of stakeholders, where you have used available data and information to make an informed decision in real time, considering and mitigating impacts on commercial performance, risk and value.

- A thorough understanding of energy industry challenges, market factors and impact on commercial opportunities.
