The Opportunity…
The HPC Commissioning Team is growing as part of its preparation to commission the first nuclear power station to be built in a generation, at Hinkley Point C (HPC)!
We are currently seeking a well-motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced individual to take on the position of Nuclear Island Commissioning Engineer (Multiple Positions for the Balance of Nuclear Island (BNI) and Radioactive Waste teams), reporting directly to the Nuclear Island Commissioning Manager.
In your role, you will be responsible for contributing to the safe, effective preparation and commissioning activities of the Nuclear Island systems within the HPC project.
You will help build successful collaborative relationships with, contractors, the HPC project delivery team, site engineering and the plant operational organisation ensuring success within your role. While working within a team to successfully commissioning HPC as part of the NNB Commissioning Programme.

What you’ll be doing…
- Ensuring all necessary resources are identified and in place prior commencement of work, including process documentation, work instructions, risk assessments, tools availability, etc.
- Setting commissioning personnel to work, effectively communicating key information applicable to work tasks including Scope of work, Safety hazards, Risk and Mitigation, permit to work limitations, etc.
- Participating in plant/equipment handovers at all stages of the process, such as acceptance for testing through to completion of testing.
- Supporting I&C, Mechanical & Process Systems Commissioning Engineers regarding the Nuclear Island aspects of their systems and testing activities.
- Leading the execution of Nuclear Island commissioning tests following approved procedures and plant/system acceptance criteria.
- Recording test results and supporting data in line with commissioning procedures and arrangements.
- Identification of faults and design errors including troubleshooting, potential investigations.
- Escalation of issues and when required the formal tracking of such problems to resolution.
- Witnessing of test activities performed by others e.g., onsite, and off-site testing and may include Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Identification and communication of Operational Experience associated with the work being executed which may have an impact on how we carry out testing activities.
Who you are…
You’ll need experience of working in a highly regulated industry such as nuclear generation, utilities, oil & gas, or other heavy/manufacturing industries.
Your enthusiasm and drive for continuous improvement will be a valued part of the Commissioning team and HPC. It is desirable that you have a good understanding of Nuclear Island plant operations and broad plant/systems knowledge; however, full training is available.
- Good technical background in process systems tests including flushing, pump, and valve testing, etc.
- Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to others.
- Preferably degree qualified or equivalent such as HNC and/or relevant experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
We also welcome applications that do not meet all the criteria but would like to develop in a Nuclear Island Commissioning role.
