Commodity Manager

We are currently recruiting a Commodity Manager to join a leading international manufacturing client based near Preston on a permanent basis. This role has been created due to continued company growth and future plans to develop the purchasing team.

The successful candidate will have previous experience as working in a similar function within a manufacturing / engineering based environment. Experience in Automotive manufacturing is highly advantageous due to the demand on site. Candidates will be responsible to supplier management and development and will be expected to travel to sites as needed to work with the supply base.

Successful Candidates will be required to manage commodities such as piping / hoses

Candidates will ideally be degree qualified however those with a strong background in Purchasing will be considered - CIPS qualification is also highly desirable

Role Description

• Management of a high value commodity package including development of suppliers to ensure total cost sourcing decisions are made in line with company requirements
• Achievement and reporting of Company targets on cost control, quality improvement and lead time improvement
• Development of partnership relationships with vendors
• Work with suppliers to implement company Cost Management Programme and ensure Six Sigma projects are defined and implemented
• Understand commodities managed at multiple levels and develop short, medium and long-term commodity strategies
• Identify and lead a number of cost reduction projects
• Manage a complex and varied workload, ensuring attention is maintained on key actions.

Skills & Attributes

• Ideally degree qualified in a relevant discipline
• Strong background in purchasing and commodity management - experience with piping/ hoses is advantageous
• Experience in supplier development
• CIPS Qualified - Desirable
• Knowledge of Manufacturing and production planning
• Global sourcing and logistics
• Proven management skills with ability to optimise team performance.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Strong and effective communicator across all levels.
