About the role
Research, convening and influencing are at the heart of what we do, and the demand has never been greater for innovative solutions to the global challenges we collectively face.
Working across the Climate and Sustainability (CAS) and Development and Public Finance (DPF) programmes, the Events and Marketing Officer will support the delivery of creative communications, marketing strategies and exciting events to engage target audiences with ODI research and insight around the themes of climate and development finance.
The postholder will also be responsible for editorial, media, digital and publications support, assisting with DPF and CAS production processes and outputs and enhancing the visibility of research through the ODI website and other digital channels. The postholder may also work to support the central Public Affairs and Communications team (PAC) and contribute to wider ODI communications and events activities.
Person Specification - Essential
Knowledge and Qualifications:
- A degree and post-graduate degree in relevant discipline.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience in supporting the delivery of strategic communications – working creatively to inform/influence policy outcomes.
- Proven experience of managing and convening activities and events.
- Demonstrable experience in digital communications including website support, blogs, infographics, and social media content.
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, and proven ability to summarise technical research in clear, accessible, and compelling language.
- Excellent organisational, prioritisation and project management skills.
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and under pressure.
- Ability to self-start and solve problems, generate plans and ideas and carry them through to completion.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collegially with researchers, helping to shape research communications for target audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and from different cultures.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Ability to quickly pick up new software and tools, willingness to learn new skills.
- Excellent IT and data management skills, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Knowledge of or work experience in climate, sustainability and/or development finance policy and practice, including key debates, policy processes and key actors.
- Experience of working with media, drafting press releases, building media lists, researching markets, and assisting on pitches.
- Experience of managing relationships with external agencies and freelancers.
- Additional language competence.
