Job description

Communications Officer who has excellent copywriting, editing and proof-reading skills with digital marketing experience including campaigns on Social Media, knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics is required for a well-established organisation based in Helston, Cornwall, South West England.

SALARY: Starting salary £29,777 per annum, pro rata (Actual salary £17,705 - £18,684 per annum for part-time hours)
BENEFITS: 25 days holiday pro rata plus bank holidays and contributory membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
LOCATION: Helston, Cornwall, South West England
JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent
WORKING HOURS: 22 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Occasional attendance at evening or weekend meetings and events will be required.

JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Communications Officer who has excellent copywriting, editing and proof-reading skills with digital marketing experience including campaigns on Social Media, knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics.
As the Communications Officer you will play a critical role in the establishment and promotion of the organisations brand and will create, coordinate, and execute communication plans to increase public awareness. Applicants will be self-motivated, have an eye for detail and able to work as part of a team.
Working as the Communications Officer you will work closely with various departments to maintain a thorough understanding of the organisation’s dynamics and service offerings, as well as identifying the most important information to communicate. You are expected to monitor trends and stay abreast of related developments to ensure the timeliness of the content you produce. Success in this role will be determined by implementing effective communication strategies to improve the organisations profile within the community.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Communications Officer include:
• Ensure effective delivery of the organisations messaging both internally and externally, with customer facing, open and fully accessible communications
• Promote (and defend) the organisations reputation and services with residents and increase customer satisfaction
• Develop the organisations communication activities in accordance with the aspirations contained in the Communication Strategy
• Assist the Administrative Assistants in managing the organisations website, including having editorial control of content; ensuring it remains relevant; ensuring there is good access to information on organisations services, policies and meetings; and making sure it meets accessibility standards
• Develop and manage the branding of the organisation to ensure a consistent and professional image in accordance with the values and objectives of the organisation
• Develop and maintain the organisations media presence and relationships, including newspapers, radio, TV, websites, and social media channels. Ensuring consistency of message and appropriate imagery
• Create newsletters and other material to promote the work of the organisation
• Assist the senior management team in the promotion of the organisation’s community and commercial activities
• Create interactive social media content and campaigns in consultation with the senior management team
• Assist and advise other teams on coordinating public consultations and carrying out market research
• Produce and present reports and recommendations to the organisation on improvements to the organisation’s communication and community engagement strategies in consultation with the senior management team
• Comply with and assist the senior management team in maintaining compliance of the organisations data management procedures, including data protection, freedom of information requests, and complaints procedure. As well as ensuring permissions and accreditation for imagery and materials
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Essential
• Writing and editorial experience
• Experience of using proactive engagement techniques
• Experience with marketing campaigns on social media
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and various social media platforms
• Awareness of the role of the organisation and the local government environment
• Knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics
• Strong skills in developing (and promoting brands through) social media channels
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills
• Ability to develop good working relationships
• Experience of using IT to produce & share information
• Strong organisation and prioritisation skills including ability to manage own workload and use initiative
Desirable
• Qualification in marketing, communications, public relations or relevant field
• Experience of Community Engagement
• Experience working with the different tiers of local government or the third sector
• Experience of working with content management systems (Web and Apps)
• Knowledge of word press
• Experience in designing graphics for digital platforms and for print (Adobe or Canva)
• Graphic design experience
