Peterborough Mental Health Service is now seeking individuals to join us on a permanent contract, working 21 hours per week (varying between 8.30am - 8.30pm, including some weekends) who would like to develop or continue work in our sector. We support individuals who have Mental Health issues to maintain their independence and connect with their community. Our team of Support Workers provide a friendly contact for those who may be experiencing isolation or have support needs.

The vacancy

In your role as a Community Outreach Support Worker - Mental Health, you will be travelling across Cambridgeshire (Huntingdon, Yaxley, Sawtry, Warboys, March, etc) to our service users, providing a vital service within the community working with individuals with Mental Health requirements. Being a main source of support and point of contact, our goal here is to help improve their quality of life, their ability to sustain their tenancies and the achievement of independent living.

You will help to improve their lives by:

  • Maximising the independence of people who require support and enabling real choices in how they lead their lives

  • Providing housing related support such as supporting people to access their benefits entitlements; pay their rent and household bills; secure appropriate accommodation; access employment, volunteering and training opportunities.

  • Assisting people with shopping, supervising medication, and prompting clients to do domestic chores. Social inclusion support to build confidence in accessing the community.

In addition to the above you would be responsible for:

  • Maintaining accurate records of support provided, maintaining risk assessment and support plans.

  • Working with partner agencies such as Peterborough City Council, NHS services and Cambridgeshire County Council.

About You

Sharing our passion for improving lives, you will ideally have worked in a similar role supporting individuals with enduring Mental Health needs, although we’re open to candidates wanting to start in their Care careers or interested in pursuing a new career within a Mental Health / Social Work environment. Having some knowledge and understanding of Mental Health and the issues around it would be beneficial.

You’ll be comfortable in challenging negative beliefs and provide positive behaviour support, and always demonstrate a supportive and caring nature. It’s crucial to display good communication and listening skills, with a strong ability to provide advice to help our customers.

Please note, it is an essential requirement to hold a full driver’s licence as you will have access to a fleet of pool cars in order for you to carry out your role.
