Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity to recruit 2 people in Local Area Committees, within the Neighbourhoods Portfolio. 1 post is permanant and 1 post is temporary for a year term.

What are Local Area Committees (LACs)?

There are 7 Local Area Committees across the city. The committee consists of the 12 elected members for the 4 electoral wards within the area, this includes a Chair and Deputy Chair. Each committee is supported by a small team of officers.  Local Area Committees (LACs) are a way for people to make a difference in their area and communities.  The LACs are an opportunity for people to get involved, say what is great about their area, what improvements they would like to see and what matters to them and their community.​ Giving people a chance to influence decision making, share their opinion and contribute to positive changes in their community.​ LACs work together with partners and stakeholders to link services and operate effectively in line with the needs of the community to deliver the priorities.

The role?

Working in a small fast paced team your role is to work with communities to co-ordinate and help deliver local activities and projects. Your role is to ensure ward priorities and the local community plan are identified and addressed, to help meet local communities needs and aspirations. Your role is to develop and enhance local engagement opportunities for Sheffielders and their communities, helping them to be empowered and ensuring they are well informed, can raise local issues and influence service delivery in their local area. Looking for solutions, action and community interventions working in collaboration.  You will support local councillors in their community leadership role helping them to engage with their local communities and partners. Communicate and promote LACs and the work in communities through various channels and sources. Your role is to monitor and organise funding streams, communicate and promote the LAC through various channels, use local data and create various reports,

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
