New England Seafood International – who are we?
We are a premium supplier of fresh fish, value added fish products and raw ready to eat fish to all the major UK retailers and to food service customers in the UK. We have nearly 500 employees based in our manufacturing site in Chessington, Surrey and 380 based in our manufacturing site in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. We are also joint partners with Comptoir Oceaniques, a French company, in Joii Sushi, providing sushi to all the major sushi chains in the UK. Joii Sushi has its base in Chessington and has manufacturing facilities in Boulogne, France.
Sitting on the site management team, this role will be the custodian of all technical systems that confirm our food safety obligations and commitment are being met for New England Seafood, our customers and external certification bodies.
· Manages, and reviews processes to deliver and continuously improve the company’s food safety and QMS system for Ready to Cook and Raw Ready to Eat.
· To ensure that correctly documented technical controls are operated within the site and kept up to date with any amendments being issued in a timely manner.
· Ensures factory traceability and process control paperwork is compliant.
· Understand any changes in legal requirements, codes of practices, and industry standards; the impact on sites and QMS, ensuring compliance
· Maintaining accurate data collection, identifying trends, and escalating when intervention is required. I.e., complaints out of spec micro, Taste panel, serious complaints.
· Site contact and management of external laboratories
· Develops and monitors internal auditing systems i.e., QA checks, GMP audits, NESI manufacturing Standards, Process audits etc ensuring audits are completed to schedule through reporting statistics via Tier 3 and 4 meetings.
· Manages taste panels, results and feedback including monthly store buy backs. Completes and/or supports benchmarking sessions.
· Manages complaint data, investigations, and close outs in a timely manner.
· Reviews sampling results & taking appropriate action where necessary.
· Updates to the Speciation risk assessment, review of artwork and QMS are made in a timely manner to ensure successful launches
· Leads the quarterly brand integrity reviews and customer consistency panels
· Ensure good preparation for successful technical visits.
· As and when required to lead thorough investigation and root cause identification of quality and safety issues. Where corrective action plans are identified, facilitate the completion and implementation of actions to prevent reoccurrence
· Provides new and innovative insights.
· Through continuous improvement, challenge methods and techniques that change the way processes and systems operate.
· Manage the completion of all retailer reports and internal monthly board report.
· Manage and prepare all technical data required for customer KPI meetings
· To ensure that processes are in place that maintain and support authenticity claims.
· Ad-hoc project work as gaps identified
· Work with site technical leads to meet technical objectives
· As a member of the site management team, work in multifunctional team to provide trend and to support Food Safety Culture.
· Support team in the Crisis Management Situation, Mock Recalls and data collection.
· Identify cost saving initiatives as work is progressed
· Attend and actively participate on Daily Cross - functional meetings reporting Technical KPI’s and instigating actions when required.
· Daily presence in factory floor, work collaboratively with Operations and Engineering teams driving improvements on Quality and Food Safety Controls and Culture.
· A degree or equivalent in a Food Science or related discipline
· Experience within the food industry, Technical and Quality preferable.
· Knowledge of food legislation, labelling, nutritional and allergen information
· A strong communicator with a conscientious and diligent attitude
· Ability to deal with colleagues across all levels and functions of the business
· Can interpret the technical agenda
· The ability to be flexible, multitask and work well under pressure
· An understanding of technical systems including HACCP
· Competency in Microsoft Word/Excel

This role is a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave.
